"Stan Kenton Plays for (Capitol ST 2655) should appeal to every musical fan. It's a bright lineup "Yesterday," "Sound Music," "Strangers in the Night." Can't beat Kenton. "Happiness Is Godfrey Hirsch" (Coral CRL 757489) is one for vibes fans. It's a stirring assortment of old new borrowed Now My Lo blue in the And pretty throughout. "A Latin Happening" (Warner Bros.

The bountiful sound of Gleason is especially triumphant i "Mame," "Call Me," and "African Waltz." One for the teens: "Cheetah Beat" (Imperial LP 9390), with Sandy Nelson drumming up a s't m. "Freak Beat" is a novelty, that really thumps. "The secret of Robin's success," says a friend, "is that she married a rich guy." While cocktail-waitressing at Gatsby's, she went over' to Jilly's one 3 a.m. and spotted a man who, she says, "looked exactly like a "He walked like a penguin, too. I winked at him." When he proposed, she told him he looked like a penguin. For a wedding present, he gave her a jewel shaped like a penguin. "He's a financial wizard," she told me at El Morocco this morning.

"Don't print his name. He doesn't like to be mentioned with a nut like me. (I met him, he's a handsome, pleasant, very unpen-guin-like chap in his mid-30s). "When we moved into our penthouse, it seemed so wonderful but now it's not good enough for me. I say 'Oh, let's get a town house over on the East Robin, a Brooklyn brunet with a provocative figure, says she's "fey" or "bizarre" but not crazy.

"I had hatcheck concessions at the Spindletop, the Ali Baba and Wellington for a while," she told me. "I was making $600 a week. I'd take my boxes of money home and sit up in bed at 6 in the morning like a miser counting my tips." Robin was admitted to the Actors Studio though she only went two years to Eastern District High, Brooklyn. "I was in the 42d St. movies when I was supposed to be in school," she said.

"I used to go to movies at 9 a.m. instead of to school. Those movies were a great place to get your pocket picked." Robin was panicky with suspense while waiting to hear whether Actors Studio had accepted her. The big call was supposed to come at midnight. "I waited and waited.

Finally I called them and said, 'I just happened to come in and thought I heard my phone ringing. Did you call They said "Just then I got a call from sister-in-law in Palm Beach asking if I'd heard yet. I hated her for two months for tying up the phone. "Then the call came.
