The death of the Shatto child has caused 8 general diphtheria scare, and a large number of children been kept out of school. We have interviewed all the doctors, and all say there is not 8 of case diphtheria in the vicinity that they know of.

Each one has several cases of sore throat under his care, as has been the case all winter, but there is no diphtheria. The physicians who attended the the Shatto child think she died of diphtheria, but are not absolutely certain. It should be remembered that this disease, in 8 single case, cannot be determined with absolute certainty except by microscopic examination, as children often die from severe attacks of sore throat and membraneous croup in precisely the manner of diphtheria, but microscopic examination showing the absence of the diphtheria bacillus. However, as before said, the doctors believe this to have been diphtheria. All precautions have been taken to prevent the spread of the disease.

All the surviving members of the family have had 8 dose of antitoxine, and all those who attended the child have been looked after. The school board and the tors are using the utmost vigilance, and members of the board tell us the school will be promptly dismissed whenever there is reasonable cause to fear danger.

At present there is not the slightest cause for alarm. Died. Emily Shatto died Sunday af- ternoon, of diphtheria, aged fifteen years. The remains were interred Monday. The family have been living at T.
