ad by the PAbLOR MARKEt. POLITICAL. AFTERMATH OF THE PRIMARIES. The Executive Committee Meets and Declares the Results- -The Agony Over for Most Candidates but a Goodly Number Must Try It Over Again. The County Democratic Executive Committee assembled at the court house at 12:80 p.m., yesterday, pur: suant to adjournment, and was called to order by Chairman Murray F.

Smith. It was moved and carried that the committee proceed to receiv and amine the returos of the primary of July 16th, and declare the results. The roll Was then called and there being DO objection Mesare. Thos. Freeland, J.

L. Hyland and H. J. committee to examine and report OD Trowbridge were appointed no aubthe returns, in the presence of the committee. It was also agreed that in the ab seuce of any contest the tally-sheets should be accepted as conclusive evi: dence of the result, and that the names OD the ticket should be taken up in order.

A roll-call of the warde and districts had previously abowo that each was represented in the meeting. The toxes-aine in number -were then opened in order, beginning with the Firet Ward. After the Second Ward returns were read Mr. A. C.

Peatross object ed that the figures should be verified by an actual count of the votes. The chairman said he thought the tally-sheets were anquestionably cor rect, being made up in the presence of maoy witnesses. In the absence of specific objections be thougbt it was asking too mach of the committee that they should examine each and every ticket. Mr. Peatross rejoined that several voters at and at Oak Ridge, whence no votes were ed tor him, would make oath that they bad voted for bim.

He reserved the night to reDew hie objection at the proper time and this was recogaizad by general and tacit consent of tue committee-though some said--and this passed without contradiction, that in any case it would be requisite and necessary to make a recount of the legislative vote, and it had been already conceded that recount should he made in the case of magis trates of the drat or city district. When the fourth ward box seals were broken it was found that the tally-sheets were unsigned. This made a Reneation, but the failure to sign the sheets was regarded as an overgight and the sheets were accepted eubject to future objections, should occasion arise, and the count ceeded. Having examined the city tally sheets the returu- from the country districte were taken up, beginning with Brunswick, in the second trict. The count being completed a recess was taken to permit the eubcommittee to foot up the totals and it retired to an adjacent room for that purpose.

The had demonstrated that Mr. Peatroas had been misinformed as to being DO votes returned for him from wick and from Oak Ridge, as 4 were reported from the Brat and 6 from the second. The committee re-entered the courtroom at 2:10 p.m., when Chair. man Smith called the committee to order and the footings of the returns were announced. Senator Kiger was declared nominated, ad was T.

D. Marshall for A pater genator. When the count for representative was reached Mr. M. Dabney presented figures ing thet the bigbest vote cast was that for chancery clerk, following up thia by a tabulated statement of the vote in the case of other where only a single pereon was wu be nominated.

He suggested that the vote for chancery elerk be taken 88 8 basie this suggestion was made to the committee by Chairman Smith, who thought the proposition eminently fair. Mr. E. L. Brien, 88 a member of the committee, he explained, and not a8 a candidate since in no event could he be in the second race, he said, objected to this method.

Mr. Dubney said in reply that any candidate who got more than half of 1,466 votes, the namber cast for chancery clerk, certainly nominated, and that therefore thie vote was sale basis. This W48 embodied as a motion and being seconded came up for further debate aud explanation. Mr. W.

L. Trowbridge argued in support of an amendment that each nominee must have a jority of the voles cast and that this should apply to all candidates. This was embodied la a motion, but Mr. Brien renewed bis objection and advocated counting the number of persons marked 00 the a8 voted. Thie, he said, would take very little time.

The motion was then put and carried, and under the rule Mesera, Geo. Anderson and J. W. Collier, were declared the party nominees for the legislature, and that second ballot be taken in the Auguet 1 primary in the cases of Mesare. M.

M. Hooker and Obas. Ehrman. There being no choice for Sherif, Mesara. H- broo and Hopper, the leading candidates, were appointed to run at the second primary.

Mr. J. D. Laugblin was declared nominated chancery clerk. The vote for circuit clerk was taken up and upon a motion that the race be run over again by Mesers.

Mann and Brennan, the leading candidates, Mr. Mano rose and sabmitted a copy of a letter which be bad sent to Mr. Brennan which substantially alleged be and Mr. Brennan had agreed that the one receiving a plurality of votes at the first primary should be considered nominated. He asked the committee to send for Mr.

BrenDaD, and upon motion the chair sppointed a committee to wait 00 Mr. Brennan and solicit his attendance, but that gentleman tered at this moment, and apon the letter being read to bim said in Awarded Mighest Honors- World's Pals PRICES BAKING POWDER MOST PERFECT MADE. La Barre declared nominated. For the assessorebip, Martin and Reid are to run again, and for corover, M. J. Wizz ard and itt Cook. It was decided that the following were members elect of the executive committee from the county at large: B.

G. Kiger, W. L. Trowbridge and W. J.

Voller. Later to the session, Mr. 8. C. gan was declared the city nominee for the board of supervisor.

He had no oppoeition. A basis upon which to estimate the city vote for Candidates was the next desideratum, and the Varinas votes Cast for candidates for off where only one person was to be nominated being compared, it appeared that the maximum vote Cast in the frat, or city district, was that cast for chancery clerk 976, and it was agreed that candidates receiving in excess of 489 votes be declared nominated. 0a this basie, Gen. E. 8.

Butts and Mr. MarrayF. Smith were declared elected to the executive committee, and it was further moved that the four leading candidates for magistrate should ran agaio, since two are to be elected. The former objections were renewed by Mr. C.

L. Brien, who beld that the committee's method was illegal, but the motion was put and carried and it was decided that Messre. Powell, Loewenberg, Littie and J. B. Dabney should run agaia.

It was also agreed that a plurality abould nominate and Meere. Powell, Little and Dabney having agreed to this, and the chairman pledging Mr. consent to this agreement, the motion was carried. Felix Henderson was declared the nominee for constable, which eladed the list of Firet District off. cers.

The remaining were then taken under consideration. It WAS objected that Pleas. Crosby was a Degro and that negroes were not entitled to take part in the election, but the committee considered that this only applied to voters and not to dates. The following results were declared in the Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth districts: Second District -Members exec utive committee, W. G.

This completed the committee's work and an adjournment Was had until Auguet 8rd, after which man Smith bad signed the tabulated statement of the resalte. The old executive committee will give place to the new one that date. AdJourament was had about 3 p.m.

Ag at the Brat election, Clerk A. J. Trowbridge is charged with the duty of having the ballots printed. The following is the membership of the new executive committee: At-Large, W. L.

Trowbridge, W. J. Voller, B. G. Kiger; First District, Murray F.

Suito, E. 8. Butte; Sec ond District, W. G. Kiger, H.

Jett; Third District, J. Hyland, Thos. Freeland; Fourth District, W. D. Cook, E.

P. Goft; Fifth District, James A. K. Hall. The proposition of the objectors who wanted the Dames marked on the poll-booke used as 8 basis for eatimating the majorities, was that much scratching had been done and on this accouat the vote for any given office was nocriterion of the number of lots.

In support of this they stated that at one box, where the highest vote cast to All any office was 128, coat showed that acourd. ing to the poll-booke 186 persone had actually voted. It bad been quite generally believ. ed that in the race for the city magistracy ex- Mayor Powell was 8 winner on the first ballot, but ander the rule adopted it appeared that be was siderably short of receiving a ty of the highest vote Cast in the election, as 489 was required and he had only 458. This necessitates the second race tor which be, a and Mesera.

Inep ctor Price, of the sanitary department, reported yesterday that the gutters would be flushed from the public hydrants, either day or to morrow. They need this attentio badly enough in many stances. It is head by the city, and pante of dwellings or other houses should govern themselves ly, that the person residing in house is responsible for the sanitary condition of the premises, whether he is the owner or merely a renter, and that it is in DO Case the duty of the landlord to attend to these matters.

Thie is worth remembering, since it may save trouble with the sanitary authorities. Deafness Cannot be Oured by local applications, as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure Deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube gets infamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entire closed Deafness is the result, and unless the inflammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, bearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces.
