and on Sale Advertisements: Brighthelmstone Into Brighton National has a forty minutes' programme which tells the- story of the transformation of the eighteenth-century fishing village of Brighthelmstone into the holiday resort of Brighton. Its highlights will be the Regency days, when George IV, then Pririce of Wales, discovered the resort and was in yearly residence there, and the opening of the London-Brighton Railway. The history, which is concerned only with Brighton's infancy and youth, will end with the arrival of the first train. The Welsh programme in the series "Sailing the Seven Seas" to-night at 8 10 will deal with Portdinorwic, a little harbour on the Menai Straits which has a long tradition of long voyages and of shipbuilding some of its deep-sea sailors will visit the microphone to speak of their experiences. Drama Auditions The B.B.C.

is again overwhelmed with applications for drama auditions, and it will be many months before the officials" can get through the present waiting-list. It is announced, therefore, that no more applications can be considered before the end of March. The latest returns of wireless licences show that approximately 341,779 were issued during August a net increase of 26,272 during the month. The number of licences in force at the end of August was 8,295,500, compared with 7,744,472 last year. There were 423 successful wireless prosecutions during the month.

Myra Hess will be the soloist in the Third Pianoforte Concerto, in minor, and John McKenna (tenor) will sing the song cycle "An die feme Geliebte," a setting of poems by Alois Jeitteles. The symphony is the fourth, and the concert opens with the Fidelio Overture. After leaving Queen's Hall all the regional stations except West will take a Midland feature, in which Cora Goffin, the musical comedy and pantomime actress, will sing songs from her stage successes.

This will be followed by a repetition of the Belle of New York songs which were broadcast on the National wavelength on Wednesday. Sketches and Variety There is variety from both Regional and North earlier in the evening. Regional's consists of two sketches one a Mrs. Tactless episode separated by Eddie Pola in original comedy songs North's will be relayed from the Manchester Radio Exhibition at the City Hall, the "turns" including Revnell and West, Albert Whelan, and Jeanne de Casalis.
