doubled the size of a 12 by 12 foot storage building This includes adding all siding and putting a roof on the entire structure Then they began the chore of house cleaning by putting all the tools and salvaged spare parts into proper places They moved heavy items such as rolls of wire and lengths of lumber They also moved on to other projects which include making firebreaks around the dozen or so cabins on the site and the many trees which shade the outdoor school They maintain trails which will be used by romping school children attending Scicon as part of their expanding education The girls also sorted repaired sharpened and repainted the scores of fire fighting tools They intend to work on some of the unfinished cabins Student Of Architecture Mrs Virginia Perry a teacher in the Porterville area and a former student of architecture at toe University of Southern California is the leader She instructs them removes splinters allies small bandages tronics while a fifth has a full four year scholarship to the University of California at Los Angeles this fall Truck Hits Large Rock Visalian Dies McClatchy New pa pen Service THREE RIVERS Tulare Co Horton 23 of Visalia died last night in a traffic wreck after a pickup truck hit a large rock just west of the Mineral King road on Highway 198 The driver Kenneth Doyle Spradlin 22 a roommate of the victim is in die Exeter Memorial Hospital with major head injuries The highway patrol says Spradlin will be charged with misdemeanor manslaughter and driving without a license The CHP said Spradlin was driving west about four miles west of Three Rivers when his pickup hit the rock bounced over the top of the rock and came to rest on its wheels Horton was pronounced dead on arrival at the Exeter Hospital Funeral arrangements are building and repairs on rustic mountain cabins the new look in carpentry and maintenance and-it is taking place at the 65 acre Clemmie Gill School of Science and Conservation north of here It is where this summer 15 young girls all from Porter-vile work a 32 hour week at a job entirely new to them learning how to use hand tools chop dead brush learn new words learn cooperation and at the same time earn money The girls are part of the countywide neighborhood youth corps project which is part of the war on poverty They put in their work week for $125 an hour The work looks and is hard It is regular carpentry and general maintenance work But ask any of the 15 girls how they like it and you will get the same quick response: is a ball" All the girls were recruited by Charles Rich the
