LOUIS, Oct. 29 (UP) Hiram Kaakua is probably playing his last season of football.

The greatest ball carrier in the history of the gridiron game in the Islands has definitely reached the twilight of his long and illustrious career. His enthusiasm for the game is still there and there is nothing he likes better than playing football, but after Nears of brilliant and spectacular performances, 1 he is ready to hang up his togs. Kaakua started his career at St. Louis college and after playing four years of brilliant foot--'ball, he matriculated at St. Mary's college.

it was not long before he returned to Honolulu. He then entered the University of Hawaii and played one year under Otto Klum. After leaving school, the Black Grange joined "ft the Town Team and he proceeded to play better Mitsukado football each succeeding year until a few years ago when he began to fade, age creeping up on him. Kaakua was nicknamed the Black Grange because of Lis great bait carrying ability. And it was after the Galloping Ghost of Illinois that Kaakua was nicknamed. In his prime, Kaakua was fast and shifty and once past the line of scrimmage, he was difficult to bring down. nf It will be a long, long time before we see another ball carrier of the ability of Kaakua. A spokesman for Notre Dame has said the Irish are not interested in any New Year's Day Bowl game, Sid Keener, sports editor of the St. Louis Star-Times said tonight.

Then Dick Rape 2.3 lugged the oval to the two foot marker and on the next play Tom Courtney went irside tackle for the score with a minute and 20 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Bowled over last Saturday by Farrington for their first setback of the season after winrjng four straight, the Micks will be definitely eliminated from the race in the event they are beaten by the Saints land for at least another year. Philip Alegria Salvation Army In his time, Kaakua played many a great game to win the acclaim of the fans. The victories he won for his team with brilliant backfield performance are too numerous to mention.

But the greatest game that Kaakua ever played, in the opinion of this department which has watched him perform since he first put on the uniform as a freshman at St. Louis college some 15 years ago, was the game between Kara Alumni and the Town Team In 1935. The Townies lost the game, 27 to 26, because the Warriors had a great forward pass attack with Danny Wise tossing the oval and Johnnv Kerr and Kahuku Kodrigues on the receiving end. Kaakua was at his best in this game, despite the defeat of his team. The Kamalums couldn't stop him.

With the Warriors leading 7-0, Kaakua gave the Townies three touchdowns in as many minutes of play in the second quarter. First, he romped G3 yards around right end to cross the goal line and tie the score. Here Fletcher converting. With the Townies recovering a fumble on the Kam 27 stripe, Kaakua took the ball on first down and skirted right end for another touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, there was another fumble by the Kamalums.

Before the ball hit the ground, Stew Milligan caught the ball and raced 12 yards to the Kam 12 mark. Kaakua made eight yards on the first play, 32 on second down, and then smashed over for touchdowns. This touchdown gave the Townies the lead 20-7, but before the half ended, the Warriors registered their second touchdown when a pass, Dan Wise to Johnny Kerr, clicked for 76 yards. Kam tied the score early in the third quarter when the Warriors drove 11 yards for touchdown after Norman Kauaihilo had foiled Kaakua's attempt to punt on fourth down. Bill Wise's Kalihi cohorts then put over the winning touchdown a fw minutes later as Dan Wise passed to Kahuku Rodrigues for 30 yards." Rodrigues was standing in the end zone when the pass was made to him.

raced by Kaakua, the Townies rushed back and advanced 65 yards for a touchdown that gave them a chance to knot the count, but the try for point failed. On first down, Kaakua made six yards, but then he broke away for 33 yards on the next play. One play failed to gain, and on second down, Kaakua sped around the end, and, dodging several would-be tacklers, raced 26 yards to cross the goal line. In the fourth quarter, injury stopped Kaakua from scoring what might have been the winning touchdown for the Townies. A punt by Johnny Kerr went out of bounds on the Kam 24.

On the first play Kaakua ran 18 yards to the six stripe, but he was injured. On the next play, Kaakua valiantly attempted to push the ball across but was stopped. Not sufficiently recovered from the injury he was forced to take another time out. This caused the Townies to be penalized five yards for an extra timeout. The Schumanites failed to score.

Later in the same period, a field goal was attempted by Here Fletcher of the Townies from 27 yards out, but the former St. Mary's star missed.
