years of married life in the Fresno area for dr and Mrs Augustus Harbison Mrs Ida Harbison was bom in 874 in Tulare County Her grandparents homesteaded land hlch now is occupied by about ilf the City of Visalia Harbison was bom-in 1869 in Henderson County 111 At the age of 5 he moved with his par-Lents to Missouri and later to South Dakota near the Black Jlills at the time of the Indian uprisings I After working as a prospector for a few months and as a miner an old tin mine Which did lot produce Harbison set out for California on February 2 1892 it took him 10 days to make the rip by four different railroads In the Spring of 1893 he ipened a small business making hakes near Tollhouse These he sold in Fresno after transporting hem by a wagon At that time Fresno had a population of about 11000 The couple met near Tollhouse vhere Mrs Harbison lived with ler nine brothers and sisters on he homestead of her parents Mr and Mrs Charles Williams Harbison had to walk 15 miles through the brush to call on his weetheart The shakemakers led an active oclal life They built a platform for dancing to the tunes of an old time fiddler Mrs Harbison said specialty was the Highland Fling never
