MKLLO, .1. 1 I) Ii is A Subscriber Asks for Information About the Statue That Never Came. ''ITr. Editor: I paid one dollar towards erecting a luonumcnt of His lata Majesty Kulakana, can yon tell mo wbero tuy dollar is and what has become of tho committee? "A ScnacrtjBEit." The above laconic letter was received at this ollicc yesterday and as the signer is a good subscriber and pays his bill quarterly in advance, tho Advertiser will attempt to answer his questions. The money is all right, as the following will show the paragraph is clipped from the Advep.tiser of February 14th, 1891 "By reading the names of the members of the convention and of its various officers, it will be seen that the-' work is in good hands, and perfectly non-partizan in political complexion the officers of the organization are also the directors.

They are well known as men of ability on whom the people of the kingdom can thoroughly rely for the collection of the amount required and the proper expenditure of the same." The above ought to settle the dollar question, so now for the other query as to the whereabouts of the committee. The gentlemen of the committee are working hard in a vacant lot all the time on the monument it is presuni as nobody ever hears anything of them or their movements. It is evidently the idea oP the correspondent to ridicule the enthusiasm of the monument makers; if so, the following paragraph will not allow the public to have the same impression, it is also reprinted from the Advertiser of the date previously mentioned "A large attendance was present at the meeting of the committee selected to push the matter of raising, by popular to erect a statute in memory of the late King Kalakaua. The jcom-mittee met at the Hawaiian Hotel at an early hour yesterday evening and earnestly considered the matter from all points of view." TUI GREAT CONTEST.
