exceptions Here are the salient fcaturei of lha new ux bill: With reduced exempt lone and sharply higher rales the bill will increase federal revenue from personal income taxes by SI 114600000 year Exemptions are reduced from 1800 to 1730 for single persona from $2-000 to $1500 for married couples and other persons qualifying as of families" The additional exemption for each dependent remains except that an unmarried pereon who qualifies as head of a family no longer can claim the 5400 exemption for the dependent which gives him that status Normal Tax Remains The normal tax remains 4 per cent Surtaxes begin at 6 per cent on the first $2000 of taxable Income Instead of the preaent 4 per cent tax after $4000 Disregarding earned income credit on the normal tax this means that Income normal and surtax atari at 10 per rent Instead of the present 4 per rent After the first $2000 of taxable income the surtax rate Jumps to 9 per rent and by $2000 bracketi thereafter Increases progressively to 13 17 21 25 29 32 35 and 41 per cent After $22000 of taxable income the rale goes up in bigger Jumps to 77 per rent on Income In excess of $5000000 No Defense Tax There will be no special 10 per cent defense tax to calculate next year It la Integrated into the surtaxes and made permanent Next year for the first time taxpayers whose Income do not exceed $3000 ran allow the
