Highland TR Hill Linger AM4-70JL ICC Blames Bus Driver In Death Of 32 Braceros WASHINGTON AP The interstate commerce commission blames a bus failure to exercise caution for a train-bus collision which killed 32 and injured 27 braceros or Mexican workers in California in September The bus was crossing a railroad track at Chualar 15 miles southeast of Monterey on September 17th when it was struck by a Southern Pacific freight train traveling more than 60 miles an hour Stops Briefly The commission in an investigation report says the driver Francisco Espinosa 34 of Salinas stopped his ms for several seconds be-ore entering the grade cross-ng then proceeded across the trade -The report adds the driver bad an "unobstructed view of the railroad throughout a considerable distance is evident on this record that as the bus approached the crossing the driver could lave readily observed the approaching northbound train he had looked southward along the The bus was a converted truck operated by Demco arms Salinas The report says the train was being operated in accordance with grade crossing rules Jim James Jr Andrew Jickion (Jim) James Jr 52 the assistant chef at the Sunnyside Country Club died last night in his home at 1435 West Cambridge Avenue from a heart attack James had worked for the country club the past three months Prior to that he had been the chef in the old Hotel Sequoia and had worked in the Fresno Hacienda Motel and £1 Rancho Motel A native of Wills Point Tex James had lived in Fresno 27 years He was a vet eran of the cavalry and army air force and served in the merchant marine during World War II James was on the executive board of the Cooks Union Local 230 and was a member of the Baptist Church in Texas He is survived by his widow Dorothy a son Vincent of Fresno a sister Mrs Florence McCarley of Dallas Tex four brothers Floyd of Wills Point and Carl William and Glenn all of Dallas and one grandchild Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Stephens Sc Bean Funeral Service Mrs Connor A requiem mass will be -celebrated Monday at 9 AN in St Church for Mary Connor 72 owner Grocery- at 500 South Backer Avenue She died Monday in a local hospital after a short illness A native of Ireland Mrs Connor came to Fresno 4(1 years ago Besides operating the grocery she owned several rental properties She was formerly employed as a waitress She has no known survivors The rosary will be celebrated tomorrow at 7:30 PM in the Harry Palm ChapeL Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery Thomas Wilson Funeral services for Thomas Wilson 29 of 635 North Millbrook Avenue will be held Phocniz Ariz Wilson died Thursday night a local hospital He was awaiting heart surgery when suffered a heart attack Wilson who was born in Warren Ohio had lived in Fresno since June He was the assistant manager of the K-Mart department store He was graduated from Arizona State University at Tempe and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity Wilson was a member of the Spiritualist Church of Warren and was an army veteran His survivors include his widow Sharon of Sierra Madre Los Angeles County his parents Mr and Mrs Harold Wilson a brother Harold Wilson and a grandmother Mrs Jeanette Haas all of Phoenix The Lisle Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements Mrs Mildred Brill Funeral services for Mrs Mildred Brill 40 of 2555 'forth Millbrook Avenue will held at 2 PM Tuesday in St Lutheran Church Mrs Brill died yesterday in local hospital after a long illness She was bom aboard an ocean liner while her parents were en route from Germany to the United States and Fresno A graduate of Edison High School Mrs Brill was a mem-er of St Church and the Young Womens Guild Until she became ill she was employed by Combs Cleaners for 18 years She is survived by her husband Henry Brill of Fresno her mother Mrs Gossman of Fresno two daughters Mrs Felix Coronado of Sanger and Mrs Robert Petersen of Baldwin Park Los Angeles County a son Dennis Clary Brill of
