Wyatt Gantt, a spokesman for the Montgomery Police Department. Charges allege the men poured gasoline on the open stairway of the apartment, setting the fatal fire. Five bullets from three different high-powered rifles struck the moving cars of Ms. Lindsey on U.S. 231, Kelly Lowe on Klmore County Road 8, and Barry Kelley on Lower Wetumpka Road. And prosecutors are arguing that Mr. Oryang's SKS semiautomatic assault rifle was the weapon used in the fatal shoot-.

ing of Ms. Lindsey. The attempted murder case Involving Ms. Lowe will be tried later in Elmore County. Ms.

Wall, a co-worker and friend of the deceased 31-year-old Eclectic resident, testifying in her Alabama Army National Guard uniform, said the pair had just returned from visiting Ms. Lindsey's mother and were headed back toward Montgomery when the shooting occurred. In a cracking voice often coupled with tears, Ms. Wall told jurors she did not see the car from which the shots were fired that night because she didn't normally notice passing cars. "But I do now," she said.

Sporadic sniffles and sighs were evident from the courtroom full of observers Tuesday as Ms. Wall described how she pulled skull fragments from her hair as police investigated the scene outside Jimmy's Lounge on U.S. 231. A Montgomery police officer who arrived first at the scene identified several 8-by-10-inch photographs of Ms. Lind-; scy's Chevrolet Monte Carlo with her limp body still inside.

The I pictures were shown to jurors despite objections from Mr. Oryang's defense attorneys. In opening statements, defense attorney Tommy Goggans told jurors Mr. Oryang was not with two codefendants the night ftf the shooting and because they already pleaded guilty, their credibility should be questioned. They are scheduled to be sentenced Thursday by Montgomery Circuit Judge William Gordon, the same judge hearing Mr. Oryang's case. Montgomery County District Attorney Charlie Graddick said after Tuesday's testimony he thought the case was going quickly because of little or no cross-examination of witnesses by defense attorneys. On the defense's argument that Mr. Oryang was not involved with Harris and Gibson, Mr.

Graddick said, "It is the only thing they could say." Admitted into evidence in the first day of trial was a carbine, the only weapon recovered by authorities that was found behind Mr. Oryang's 28 E. Patton Ave. home the day after his arrest. A 7mm rifle allegedly owned by Harris and the SKS assault rifle were never found.

Shells and casings from all three weapons were recovered from the various shootings and Mr. Graddick said Department of Forensic Science experts are expected to match the spent ammunition with the weapons used. A friend of Mr. Oryang's who police said called the Secret Witness hotline to turn in the trio is also expected to testify today, Mr. Graddick said.

Other emotional testimony Tuesday came from Ms. Lowe, 20, of Deatsville who told jurors about how she held her intestines with her hands after discovering she had been shot through her car door along Redland Road in Elmore County. She was hospitalized for six weeks, but has recovered enough to testify in the trial. Ms. Lowe told jurors she remembered a dream she had while she was in the hospital in which she relived the incident and remembered the yellow-colored muzzle blast she saw out her car window.

loyalty." Dr. Johns filed a grievance with the Rev. Dr. Boozer, alleging Dr. Jackson undermined his ministry.

In a May 1 letter, the Rev. Dr. Boozer wrote to Dr. Jackson that he did not find "sufficient evidence to refer this to the Board of Ordained Ministry." He could not be reached for comment. The Board of Ordained Ministry has the authority to review charges through its Joint Review Committee, which holds informal hearings and reports back to the board.

The board can dismiss the charges for lack of evidence or refer serious charges to an investigation committee, which brings ministers to trial, where they can be forced to surrender their ordination. Mr. Reynolds' position on the board became an issue last March as council members argued over changes in the membership of certain boards, commissions and authorities that help run the city. The City Council also agreed Tuesday to help improve the utility services for a north Montgomery neighborhood. Among thousands of dollars approved in appropriations from each council district's designated funds was a $16,166 grant from District 1.

The money will be used to help install natural gas lines along Todd Road in Madison Park, said Mr. Moncus, who added the last-minute request to the spending package. Money from the Montgomery County Commission and the federal government will be added to the $16,166 to finance installation of gas lines to residents in the north Montgomery neighborhood, he said. Mostly elderly and poor residents live in the area and many use propane gas for heating and cooking, he said. Details about how many homes would be affected and when construction will begin was not available late Tuesday.
