of Binghamton. However, the Alikakos brothers owe thousands of dollars to the state tax department, agency spokesman Paul Rickard said. Before the brothers build a new legacy, the tax warrants must be paid off, Rickard said. A sales tax warrant filed six years ago against the business, Tally-Ho Pantry lists unpaid taxes between November 1976 and February 1977 of $12,800 and penalties and interest of $13,112.47. A second warrant filed the day after the fire lists state business taxes totaling $7,800 owed personally since 1976 by the partners, in addition to a $3,200 penalty.

Inter-est boosts the bill another $21,181.88. The total debt in state sales and business taxes comes to $58,094.35, with interest and penalties still accumulating. The indictments accuse him of setting fires to cover break-ins at the Tally-Ho and at the Magic Wok Restaurant on Harry Drive in John-Son City last year. The distinctive neon and chrome Tally-Ho, built during the Second World War, was a between school-period hangout for students and teachers.

Occasionally, the two would meet, said Robert E. Baxter, assistant principal at nearby Binghamton High School. "It wasn't exactly a big name hide-out.
