It appears that ou Monday evening he fell from a dray which he was driving, at the corner of Tchonpitoulas and Felicity streets, when one wheel passed over his body injuring him internally so that he died during the night. A verdict of accidental death was rendered. Recorders' Clerks. Recorder Wiltz has appointed Eugene Staes and Alphonse Rieflel a his clerks, and Recorder Long has appointed A. Larose and P.

L. Maillot as his, clerks. They entered on their duties yesterday. Saved from Drowning. After the heavy shower yesterday afternoon, a little boy abont three years old, when playing along the banquette of Perdido street, between St.

Paul aud GirourJe streets, fell into the gutter, 'which was completely overflowed, and would have been drowned but for the timely interference ef a neighbor, who rescued him from bis perilous condition. Boys' High School, Second District. The Boys' High School, of the Second District, is in a nourishing condition. It contains fifty pupils, of ages ranging from fourteen to seventeen. The majority are, however, but a little above fourteen.

The principal of the school, Mr. Romain, is one who was educated in the schools of the District. As a teacher, he possesses marked excellencies. A good scholar, yet still a close student; affable, yet dignified, in his intercourse with the pupils possessing the power of making himself understood, and of communicating knowledge, ho is admirably fitted for the position" he holds, and his classes bear testimony to his success in his honorable vocation. In history, translations from French into Koglisb, rhetoric, aud commentaries on the constitution, he led the examination yes I terday and gave a proof of the faithfulness of his labors.

The introduction of the last mentioned branch of study into our high schools is a novelty. The text book used is an abridge, ment, for schools, of the great work of Judge Story on the constitution, if was interesting to listen to the explanation of the powers of the general government and their limitations of the checks aud balances which are introduced into our system, making it, while apparently simple, reiUly the most complex one existing of the relations of the people VOthe central power, and of the States to each other and the Federal Union; and, while hearing mere lade give evidence of comprehending these subjects, we must confess we begun to feel approval of the novelty. The study cannot fail to fix many great principles in the mind, which may be a guide of action at a future day. Mr. H.

Des Bordes is the 1st assistant and French teacher of this high school. He examines the cl.i uses in French, in the history of Fiance lrom the tirst establishment of the monarchy down to the era prece liugthe revolution, iu rheterie, translations from English into French, and in physics. Tbe pupils acquitted theuwel es with much credit in their FreEch recitations, particular! in their historical studies. Mr. E.

Durel is the second Knjrlish teacher. who is alao, we believe, a former pupil of the llisb School. It there shonld be any criticism, we would suggest that perhaps not quite attention enouyh is paid to English reading. Thu time beiiig necessarily occupied in the investigation ol the higher branches of learning, the necessity of cultivating the reading voice does not press constfintly upon the teachers, and the consequence is a rapidity of utterance that forbids perfect distinctness of articulation. This fault, it is true, only appeared in the translations made from one language to the other, when the mind was so occupied with a rendition of the thought as required it to forget the graces of good reading but appearing even here, it cannot be amiss to call the attention of the teachers, knowing so well how to remedy "laults, to this apparent defect.

The exercises of the day were unusually clever, and the High School of the Second District cannot fail to excite the pride of the citizens of that part of the city. The directors were present, and appeared to enjoy the. success of the school, and a large audience testified to the interest felt in the schools of the district. The examination of the Boys' High School in mathematics and other branches will continue to day, when two days will be devoted to the examination of the Girls' High School. The examination is held for these schools in the Lodge of the Perfect Union, on Rampart street.
