A12 SATURDAY, FEB. 7,1998 VITAL STATISTICS KOKOMO TRIBUNE OBITUARIES Mary Stout Mary N. Stout, 81, Shoals, died at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at Daviess County Hospital, Washington.

She was born Oct. 1916, in Indian Creek, to Franklin and Caledonia (Swift) Tester. She married A. Kenneth Stout June 5, 1937, in Bruceville and he preceded her in death. Stout retired from Larkin Brothers Department Store.

She attended Hickory Ridge Church. She was past president of Shoals Senior Citizens and Shoals Eagle Auxiliary. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles D. and Pat Stout, Bruceville; and James B. and Linda Stout of Kokomo; four brothers, Frank Tester of Muncie; Stoey Tester of Kernersville, N.C.; Billy R.

Tester of Phoenix, and Job Tester of Bicknell; a sister, Margie! Anderson of Greenwood; eight grandchildren, Stoey, Steven, Rebecca, Charles, James, and Lisa Stout, Robert Williams, and Mary Agnes Truelove, and seven great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Betty K. Williams, and a son, Paul Gene. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at McClure Funeral Home, Bruceville Chapel.

The Rev. Stoey J. Stout will officiate. Burial will be in Bruceville Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.

Sunday at Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals and 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McClure Funeral Home Bruceville Chapel. Wanda Buckalew Wanda M. Buckalew, 68, 406 Magnolia Drive, died at 7:13 p.m. Thursday, Feb.

5, 1998, at Saint Joseph Hospital Health Center. She was born May 13, 1929, in Ironton, Ohio to Howard and Gertrude (Duty) Nolder. She married Weldon W. Buckalew July 26, 1947, in Buckalew Kokomo and he survives. Buckalew was a homemaker.

She was a past member of Omega Phi Tau Sorority, Rhinestone Rustler Square Dance Club and Swinging Squares. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Sue Ann Buckalew, Costa iRica; Steven W. and Francine Buckalew, Greentown; and David A. and Lynne Buckalew, Kokomo; five grandchildren, Eric Buckalew, Jason Buckalew, Gobi Buckalew, Ryan Buckalew and Sarah Buckalew; a great-grandchild, Michaela Buckalew; two brothers, Bernard Nolder, Kokomo; and Edgar Nolder, Fort Wayne; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Stella and Frank Massie, Ironton, Ohio; Betty and Ollie Switzer, Kokomo; and Flora and John Alwine, Buxton, N.C.; a half sister and her husband, Carol and Ed Mooney, Kokomo; three half brothers and their wives, Mike and Colleen Nolder, Greg and Cathy' Nolder and Wayne and Marsha Nolder, all of Kokomo; a stepsister, Delores Howard, KoRomo; and a stepbrother and his wife, Dan and Judy Coughlin, Kokomo.

Also preceding her in death were a brother and a sister. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. The Rev.

James MacDonald will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Bona Vista Rehabilitation Center.

Bessie Roe Bessie V. Roe, 941Forest Park Healthcare Center, W. Jefferson died at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at the facility.

She was born Oct. 10, 1903 in Allen County to Jess and Orpha (Brudenberry) Burkhead. She married Joseph M. Roe Jan. 20, 1921, and he preceded her in death Oct.

22, 1955. Roe was a housewife and worked at local canning factories. Surviving are three sons, Thomas Roe, Valley, George Roe, Hot Springs, and Charles W. Roe, Kokomo; two daughters, Doris Harmon and Judith Roe, both of Tipton; 15 grandchildren, Michael Roe, Greg Roe, Mark Roe, Lisa Buetow, Danny Roe, Patty Turley, Mary L. Ware, Jr.

Roe, Pam Roe, Diana Hawkins, Theresa Dyer, Sharon Rodrigues, Karen Roe, Joe Roe, and George Roe; and 33 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were two grandchildren, a daughter, Viola Grace Roe, and two sisters, Tina Myers and Cecil Comment. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, 216 W. Jefferson Tipton.

The Rev. Greg Roe will officiate. Burial will be in Tetersburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Sunday at the funeral home. Arthur 'Poppy' Soots Arthur "Poppy" David Soots, 85, North Branch, formerly of Kokomo, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, in North Branch. He was born Jan. 22, 1913, in Kokomo to Joseph and Nancy Ham Soots.

He married Mary H. Del Vecchio May 8, 1937, and she preceded him in death Feb. 26,1985. Soots retired from Continental Steel Corp. with 35 years of service as an inspector.

He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church before moving to Minnesota in 1991. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou and Paul Hasecuster, Forest Lake, Carolyn and William Carter, Asheville, N.C.; and Patricia and Dannie Butler, Colorado Springs, a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Linda Soots, Kokomo; and 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were four brothers and one sister. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.

at Joseph Soots' residence at 529 S. Crystal St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 900 S.

Purdum St. The Rev. Tim Kroeger will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m.

Monday until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to donor's choice. Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main is handling arrangements. Raymond Hendrix Raymond Dean Hendrix, 45, 65 N.

Miami Peru, formerly of Kokomo, died Jan. 27, 1998, at his residence. He was born July 15, 1952, in Kokomo, to Robert L. and Sue Ann (Pierce) Hendrix. Sept.

29, 1973, in Kokomo, he Patti A. Harrison, who survives. He had been employed at Chrysler, Mile Post, Cuneo Press, and Moon Welding. He was a 1971 graduate of Haworth High School. He was a U.S.

Navy veteran, serving for six years. He was a member of the Luther B. Turner Masonic Lodge in Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving are his parents; two sons, Travis D. Hendrix of Kokomo, and Eric J.

Hendrix of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Corrie Hendrix of Columbus; a brother and his friend, Roger Hendrix and Robin of Hilliard, Ohio; and another brother, Ronald Hendrix of Kokomo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St. The Rev.

Harold Williams will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1152. Friends may call one hour before services at the mortuary. Betty Thompson Betty Thompson, 68, 611 W. Elm died around 9:30 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at her home. She was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Kokomo, to Gilbert L. and Jane (Cox) Clark Sr.

July 19, 1968, she married Don Thompson, who survives. She was a homemaker and housewife. She lived in Kokomo most of Hendrix her life. Also surviving are one daughter, Brenda Gabbard of Kokomo, one stepson and stepdaughter- in-Iaw, Mike and Georgianna Thompson of Burlington; three brothers Thompson and two sisters-in-law, Gilbert and Shirley Clark Jr. of Kokomo, Charles and Nancy Clark of Kokomo, and Robert Clark of Logansport; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Jane Ann Bitner of Kokomo, and Hannah and Billy Childs of Kokomo; two grandchildren and husband, Chad Gabbard and Bethanne and Shane May; and two great-grandchildren, Brooke May and Blake May.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry Gabbard; and a sister, Mary Louise Clark. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Stout Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main Russiaville. The Rev.

Fred McKee will officiate. Burial will be in New London Cemetery near Russiaville. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Stout Son Funeral Home. Patricia Piekarski DAYTON, Ohio Patricia Ann Piekarski, 59, Miami Township, passed away Jan.

17, as a result of an automobile accident. She was retired from James River Corp. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence "Larry" and Stacey Peikarski of Russiaville; her mother, Alice Corbin of West Carrollton, Ohio; her aunt, Ada (Benny) Grimes of Kettering, Ohio. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Miami Valley Memory Gardens Chapel.

"Pat" Kling, 86, R.R. Box 112, Bunker Hill, died at 10:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Howard Community Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Murray Funeral Home, Galveston.

Texas cadet trial heating up FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) 'rosecutors closed their murder case against a former midshipman Friday after showing jurors -her planner, where the victim's name was written with the date and time she was killed. Naval Academy paralegal officer eff Alcorn testified that he found the datebook in a search of Diane Zamo- a's dormitory room. Jurors saw enlarged pictures of everal pages of the book, including in entry from Dec. 4, 1995, the day 6-year-old Adrianne Jones was cilled.

The date was circled and a.m. Adrianne" was written icarby. Prosecutors allege Ms. Zamora and ler then-fiance, David Graham, cilled Miss Jones about that time. Jurors also saw a page from the banner that had a circle around the Jate of an alleged sexual encounter between Miss Jones and Graham, a for- ner cadet at the Air Force Academy.

Prosecutors say Graham and Ms. Zamora have confessed to killing vliss Jones because of the fling. Ms. Zamora says she confessed under duress. The planner also contained Miss ones' address and phone number, prosecutors said.

Ms. Zamora claims not to have known Miss Jones. Defense attorneys, who briefly ecalled one prosecution witness Friday, will begin presenting their case on Monday. They are expected to try show that Graham was solely esponsible for the killing. According to prosecutors, Ms.

Zamora hit Miss Jones over the head with a dumbbell in a car, then Graham to shoot her. Ms. Zamora was a freshman at the Naval Academy and Graham was in lis first year at the Air Force Acade- ny when they were charged in Sep- emberl996. (AP) Authorities searched nationwide Friday for two teen-agers suspected of killing a woman and her two children, dumping their bodies in a farm pond and fleeing in the woman's car. Longtime residents and police in this tiny southcentral Missouri village say they can't recall another murder. Found dead Thursday morning in a pond a half-mile from their mobile home were Susan Brouk, 36; daughter Adrian, 12, and son Kyle, 9. The three were last seen Saturday.

Mark Anthony Christeson, 18, and Jesse Carter, 17, are charged with three counts each of first-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action.
