FROM STAFF REPORTS Windsor High graduate Joel Bennett, who cleared waivers earlier this week, accepted assignment Wednesday to the Scran-tonWilkes-Barre Red Barons, the Philadelphia Phillies' Triple-A affiliate.

Bennett, who was 2-1 with a 9.00 ERA with the Phillies this season, will join the Red Barons for their game tonight at Rochester. He could have refused assignment and declaredhimselfafreeagent. "I didn't know what to expect," said Bennett, 29. "I knew if I cleared waivers that I would accept the assignment. A lot things go through your mind.

But as long as I'm successful and people are interested, I'll keep doing it. I'm not upset." Bennett, a right-hander, was 7-1 with a 3.22 ERA for the Red Barons this season before he was promoted to Philadelphia.
