Nothing like a few sticks of dynamite to kill a scoring threat in a baseball game. Depew High School had a 7-6 lead over Beggs in the fifth inning Thursday night and the bases were loaded when Creek County authorities discovered 40 sticks of dynamite about 400 yards from the outfield. Burt Laffoon of the Creek County Sheriffs Department said the dynamite was in a black trash bag with the words "Keep our city clean" inscribed on the bag.

Laffoon said a man walking up a hill spotted the trash bag. The game was delayed for two hours while a bomb squad from the Tulsa Police Department removed the dynamite and defused it about six miles away. Depew coach Sheldon Fairchild said when the dynamite was found, "everyone was pretty calm about it." "But when they said 40 sticks, everyone left," he said. About 100 spectators retreated to the high school nearby. When play resumed, Depew's next batter struck out and the inning was over.
