He sees a threat from imports of cheese and the recent advent of imitation cheeses on the market. "I think imitation dairy products could be the most serious problem facing the dairy industry," Meyer said.

Most of the imitation products are cheeses. Meyer feels that imitation cheeses should be sold under another name, just as margarine and butter are sold under different names. Meyer feels that the American Dairy Industry should direct its attention to these and other problems. Among current projects is one aimed at increasing the milk industry's share of the consumer market. Bob Earle, with the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, told dairymen earlier in the day that the group needs to expand its advertising.

The three groups, the American Dairy Associaton of Alabama, the Dairy and Food Nutrition Council of Alabama and the Alabama Dairy Trade Show, held the day-long meeting in Montgomery. Alabama Gov. Fob James opened the meeting by promising to help the dairy farmers to "the best of my ability." His sentiments were echoed by Lt. Gov.

George McMillan at the luncheon, "All you've go to do is let me know what I can do." Eugene C. Meyer, the featured speaker at the meeting, told dairymen, "The outlook for dairy farming is about as good as it's been for 25 years." Meyer, who is managing editor of Hoard's Dairyman Magazine in Ft. Atkinson, explained that over The names wre provided by Circuit Clerk Robert Newman, who called Thursday to correct the Green charge.
