Kemp, of the schooner Amelia Ann, direct from the Bay Islands, baa commonioeted to the editor of the Key of the Golf, interesting facts concerning these islands, which hare recently played such an important put in the diplomatic world, but of which we really know so little. Tbe Bay Islands as such, mentioned La the British "warrant" of 1852, are six in number Ruatan, Gnansja, Utila, Barbaretta, Hele taaad Morat. Boatan, the largest, is abont twenty two miles loDg and three broad. It bas running throngh its whole extent a high ridge, covered with pine, the washings of which perpetually fertilize the cultivable land on the coast The population of this island is about 1500 that of Utila, the next in size, only 100, principally from Grand Cayman and Honduras, in part negroes from Jamaica. On each of these two larger islands custom houses are now established the import duties being two per cent, on all merchandise, in addition to port charges.

The trade is principally with the British settlement at Belize, Honduras. Both have too safe, capacious and deep harbors to which the largest ships of war may hare ingress or egress by night or by day. Capt. K. represents tbe soil ot these islaads noarvelousiy fertile, well watered, and capable of producing tropisal fruits in the greatest luxuriance.

Ruatan and Utila alone, he thinks, could be made to produce more fruit annually than is shipped from the port of Ha Voxa. Wood and granite are also found in tbe greatest abundance on these inlands, both of which could easily be put in a state of defence. The climate is extremely healthy, resembling that of tbe Florida Keys. Directly in the path of our trade across the Isthmus, tbe Bay Inlands are, adds tbe writer, all that our worst enemies could desire, net only in geographical position, but in resources." The Fauquier White Sulphur Springs, Va were to be opened yesterday, the 1st of June. The case of Capt.

Boorman, before the Naval Court of Inquiry, was closed on Monday, and the rinding despatched to the Secretary of the Navy. Under this head the Washington Union gives a detailed account of the arrest of Jonathan S.

Jenkins, U. S. Conga! at Navigators' Island, already announced by telegraph. The warrant, it appears, was issued on the affidavit of one Von Camp, who formerly held tbe same poet. In 1856, this Von Camp chartered a ease I at Apia to carry some goods sared from the wrecked ebip Rambler, and owned in Nantucket, to Valparaiso, whither he went.

A few days after he left, Jenkins, tha Consul, appointed to succeed him, arrived in Apia, seized the goods and sold them for $170,000, for which be bas never accounted. BURNING OF STEAMER LOUISIANA, IN TIIE GUXF. GREAT LOSS OF LIFE. About 1 o'clock, Sanday morning, the steamship Louisiana, Capt. Sheppard, of tha Southern Steamship Company, took fire, six or eight miles southeast of Galveston, in the Gulf, and the result was the total loss of the vessel, a large amount of property, and, what is worse than all, a great number of human lives. From the extras, of Sanday morning and evening, of tbe Galveston News, we quota the following particulars We have to record one of the moat dreadful calamities that has ever happened In this country.

The steamship Louisiana, CapL Sheppard, is now a total wreck, having been burned some six or tight miles to the southeast of this city, in the Gulf, about 1 o'clock this morning, (Sunday, 31st uit Our citizens were aroused by tbe unusual fire alarm, as the fire was in full sight. The first intelligence received was by the arrival of a boat from the unfortunate steamer, about sunrise, bringinjr some dozen passsngers our fel'ow citizen, Mr. Grover. being among the number. Mr.

Grover says that he had a berth on the starboard upper deck that the first alarm was persons asking where the fire wa at about 1 o'clock he stepped out of his room and discovered smoke, but no fire passed round tbo stern to tbe larboard side, where he aaw from twelve to twenty persons preparing to launch the quarter boat a moment after tbe flame burst up amidship returned to tbe starboard side saw a few lowering down the quarter boat on that side went to his room, picked up bin 'shoes and coat and returned, and slid flown with otheri into the boat on the larboard side; tbe engines were still running, but fortunately the boat was lowered down without filling saw no one remaining on that side of the fctcramer. After getting adrift they looked to discover if they could find any person to take on board, but could see nobody. There were twelve in the boat, all passengers except the 2d mate, Andrew Smith, to woom Mr. Grover says they were all greatly indebted for their rescue. Mr.

learned from one on tbe boat that the tiller rope must have broken was probably burned off in consequence of whieh the steamer was unmanageable at the commencement of the fire. Tbe first efforts of the captain and officers appeared to be to reach the fire engine, but did not succeed. All communication between the forward and ater part of the boat was cut off by the fire, whiah must have pro ken out near the furnace. Tbe lax board boat was be Lor launched when he went into tbe other. He saw persons on the forward part of tbe steamer, throwing things over; apparently the hatch doors, fee for the purpose of saving themselves.

Tbe working of the engines caused tbe steamer to leave the boat rapidly, so that in the boat were unable to see or hear any thing distinctly. The boat landed on the beach, near the point, about sunrise, where Mr. Grover landed fifteen years ago, on his return from the Santa Fe expedition.
