The government ordered all liquor stores closed, and banned the use of trucks for transportation of more than three people at one time. Like Jayewardene the 61-year-old Mrs. Bandaranaike called for an end to the violence, saying in a national radio broadcast that the "strife and bitterness must now end." She said she accepted "without hesitation the verdict of the majority of the nation." Her statement was recorded at her country home midway between the capital city of Colombo and Kandy. Mrs.

Bandaranaike and her 28-year-old son, Anura, were among only eight Freedom party candidates who won seats in the 168-member parliament in their party's devastating defeat. Police said the violence in Kandy, a hilltop town in the central highlands, was typical. A few tea stalls were burned, windows of some shops were smashed and some supporters of the losing party were attacked. One death was reported here. Imposition of the curfew calmed the town during the night.

Truckloads of troops were sent into the streets in Kandy and other areas. Some 8,000 army reservists were put on standby to aid the nation's 20,000 policemen. KANDY, Sri Lanka AP) An evening-to-dawn curfew remained in effect Sunday in five regions of this island republic as fresh reports of deaths in post-election violence brought the number of victims to 20. Newly elected Prime Minister J.R. Jayewardene called on Sri Lanka's 14 million people to let political passions subside and halt the violence that led to the 9 p.m.-5 a.m.

curfew. No major incidents were reported Sunday night, but tension remained high in some parts of this Indian Ocean island, formerly called Ceylon. Political clashes erupted Saturday after final returns were announced from Thursday's fiercely contested election and the 71-year-old Jayewardene was sworn in. Jubilant members of his United National party battled supporters of the defeated Sri Lanka Freedom party of Sirimavo Bandaranaike, who lost her prime ministership but kept her seat in parliament. Reports reaching the capital early Sunday said at least 18 people were killed Saturday.

Police sources said Sunday night that the death toll had climbed to 20 but gave no details on the additional deaths. They reported that at least two dozen persons, including one former member of parliament, were aP Virepnoio BEAUTIFUL WORDS OF LIFE LEONARD JOHNSON God's Wrath Against Ungodliness and Unrighteousness "For the wrath of God Is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness" (Rom. Romans is a discussion of the spiritual state of the Gentiles in the time of Paul. They had reached the lowest point of human degredation through their impiety and unrighteousness. God had revealed his wrath against such and his purpose to punish the Gentiles for their sins.

The Lord's displeasure with the Gentiles and his determination to punish them did not result from caprice, but from their impiety toward God and their Immoral conduct toward their fellowmen. Verse 18 says that some hindered, held back, suppressed and denied the truth through their sins. What truth did the Gentiles have to hinder, suppress, deny? They certainly did not have the truth revealed by the Holy Spirit and recorded in the New Testament. They did not have all the truth revealed to the Israelites through Moses and the prophets. But they had enough truth to render their shameful conduct toward God and man inexcusable, and enough to cause God to finally give them up to the results of their own sins.

The truth to which Paul referred was that truth which was revealed to early man and was handed down from generation to generation through the centuries. Verse 19 adds: "because that which is known of God is manifested in them; for God manifested it unto them." This statement plainly says that God had manifested certain truth to the Gentiles. They knew that truth. They were aware that it was the truth of God. And yet tney were committing the grossest and most abominable of sins.

And as they sinned, they sinned against the light, for they knew that God loved godliness and righteousness and that he hated sin and would punish the sinner. Paul Is here proving that the Gentiles could not excuse themselves for their sins by claiming ignorance of God and of the truth. They were not void of light, for God had manifested himself to them, and had manifested enough truth to them that there was no reason for their sins. Is there no parallel here? Does our generation not know enough about God and his truth to be without excuse for its Impiety and ungodliness? east of Bangkok. The story was not censored. "Most Western countries have undercover agents here I know those from America, Britain France and Germany," Van Wyk said.

"Every now and then we get together and discuss our mutual interests. He denied bureau agents ever break into homes or offices abroad to collect information. He referred to claims by former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson that BOSS had burgled his London home and the residences of his staff about 10 times while he was prime minister. Wilson said last year the bureau was behind a plot to overthrow Britain's Labor government and claimed in a London Sunday Observer interview last week that there was a pro-South African faction within MI5, the British secret service. "Our agents collect information.

Their job is certainly not to try to overthrow a British government whether we like this one or not," Van Wyk was quoted as saying. "We don't have the money." "Each intelligence network must have its priorities. Ours is the security of South Africa, not bringing down the British government," he was quoted as saying. "Britain is thousands of miles away. If it were Tanzania that was involved, which is closer to us, it might be a different matter." JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) Secret agents of the South African Bureau of State Security have been trained in the United States and West Germany, the Sunday Times of Johannesburg says.

The newspaper quoted Deputy Director Alexander Van Wyk as saying the BOSS undercover agents work in many nations, including the United States, Britain and France. The article indicated training of the intelligence agents was continuing. "They are highly trained in America and West Germany and have been working abroad for more than five years," it said. No further details were given in the article about the training and Van Wyk could not be reached for comment on Sunday's report. A U.S.

State Department spokesman in Washington said he had no comment on the report and a spokesman for the West German government in Bonn said he was aware of the story but refused immediate comment. "It could be that there is an exchange of experiences (with BOSS) which one has with every state," a West German source said. "It could be that they received some sort of training on equipment (bought in West Germany)." Observers said there has long been an understanding that South African and U.S. intelligence services trade information. This is believed to have occurred because both backed anti-Communist forces in Angola's civil war and because South Africa monitors shipping lanes around the Cape of Good Hope.

PRICE DRUG CO. Chess Group Bans South Africa LUCERNE, Switzerland (AP) The International Chess Federation voted Sunday to temporarily expel South Africa for the second time in three years because of its racial policies. About 20 delegations that supported South Africa walked out of the special session of the congress after the vote. U.S. representatives did not attend the congress.

The vote came on whether the South African federation should be excluded from competition or from all federation activities. Most Socialist and Third World countries voted to exclude South Africa from all activities and won 28-23. Leonard Reitstein, president of the South African Chess Federation, told reporters he regretted the decision. It came seven months after a FIDE meeting in Haifa, Israel, readmitted South Africa, which had first been expelled in 1974. 15 Seek Greek Asylum ATHENS, Greece (AP) Fifteen East Europeans vacationing in Greece have sought political asylum in Greece over the past week, police said Sunday.

A spokesman confirmed the defections, first reported by a Greek newspaper Acropolis, a conservative Athens daily. The spokesman would not elaborate on the reports. The Acropolis said most of the 15 were Romanians, including two families. It said the government was considering their applications for asylum and "will most probably grant them." Since the beginning of the summer at least 13 other East Europeans have sought political asylum in Greece. Most were Romanians and all of the earlier requests were granted.

Boat Sinks A fter Collision TOKYO (AP) A South Korean fishing boat sank Sunday after colliding with a Japanese craft but the Korean vessel's 29 crewmen transferred to the Japanese boat, the Maritime Safety Agency in Tokyo reported. The Japanese agency said the 35.9-ton Korean vessel Song No. 5 collided with the 53-ton Japanese fishing boat Anzen Maru in calm waters. The accident took place in the sea that separates Korea and Japan, 225 miles north of Hamada on the northwestern Japanese coast. The Korean boat's hull was cracked and the crew transfered to the Anzen Maru, which sustained no major damage, the agency said.
