Who says Mobile is a sad place and who likens us to the lethargic creatures thai fanen upon the Lethe's wharf? Who dares say that our social clouds are motionless! or that our tide of afl'atrs is siagnrnl? Why, friend Pic, we have had incidents and excitements during the past week enough to last an entire summer through, if judici spread over it like butler on a school boy'i bread. Think of such head lines as these for a tele graph column, Pohtical summersets Congress mnn hung in effigy! Moral suicide! Tarty retribution! Indignation meeting! Resign! resign! Then for a second edition. "Nest of abolition dis covered! Vigilance Committee in Mobile Culprits examined false knaves! Bonds demanded! Five thousand dollars for appearance! The first excitement arose from the fuel iha one Percy alker, who is claimed to be.ong lo two thirds of the citizens here, aud a majority not so small ia the district, lock the liberty of changing hi opinion! a heresy unheard of in political Mstory. And for this weathercock folly some of his oppo nents hung up an effigy on the telegraph wtrei opposite the Battle House, bearing the ominous in cription of Percy, the Traitor!"
