The defeat dropped the O-Yanks to three games behind the Watertown Pirates in the Mc-Namara Division, as the final week of the NY-P season begins tonight with Utica at Oneonta's Damaschke Field for a double-header that completes the pair's season series, currently 4-4. Oneonta remains home tomorrow and Sunday, for single games against the Auburn Astros.

Watertown blanked Elmira last night, 4-0. Right-hander Doug Gogolewski, the Oneonta starter last night, fired a season-high 13 strikeouts in his 7Va innings but he also fired one too many gopher ball shortly before his exit. Scott Ruckman's three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth made up a three-run Utica deficit to send the game into extra innings. The game was an hour and 20 minutes late starting, because of wet grounds. The Blue Sox committed five errors, helping Oneonta score three unearned runs.

Oneonta had runners on second and third with nobody out in the top of the ninth but failed to score. Gedaminski relieved Darren Chapin to start the 11th. Shelby McDonald was the Utica winner, facing just two batters.
