Flan Spring Activities A Spring dance a barbecue a festival and a swimming party for the Young Homemakers were other activities and It is planned to repeat them this year Cooperating with the extension service the Caruthers chapter sponsored several demonstrations nd test plots in the district on sunt subjects as soil fumigation and cotton fertilization and defoliation With a membership of program started in 1942 with demonstrations of the treatment In 19f3 and 1944 10000 cattle were treated for grubs in California This number hasgrown until in 1948 there was 326267 head treated Unfortunately many of the reported treated catile did not undergo enough treatments for an effec-' tive control Many were only treated once or twice when four or five treatments were necessary Wolters boys started with their projects The club members who are conducting a candy sale during the noon hours at the school have voted to donate $10 toward the purchase of a movie projector for the school Boy DOS PALOS (Merced Co) Jan 29 Having done satisfactory Holstein Calf Club work during 1948 Glenn Howard Jr of Dos Palos has been awarded a certificate of merit and granted a Junior mem-berhip In the Holstein-Friesian Association of America Brattieboro Vt He was recommended for these awards by the state 4-H Club leaders All privileges of the association except voting have been given him until he Is 21 yearsof age He is the 9713th member of The Holstein-Friesian Calf Club of America to achieve the national recognition 25 Lin Foot MODESTO (Stanislaus Co) Jan 29 The White Leghorns of the Vantresa Poultry Breeding Farm of Live Oak Sutter County retained their lead during December in the Ninth California Official Egg Laying Test with $7257 Income over feed cost The Leghorns of the Foreman Ibultry Farm of Lowell Mich were in second place with a net profit of $6980 above feed and third place was held by the Leghorns of Breeding Farm of Forrest III with $6870 Income over feed The high pen for the month was the Capital Breeding Rhode Island Reds from St Paul Minn with 871 eggs at $3679 value and above feed cost In second place were the Vantress Leghorns with 642 eggs valued at $3514 or over feeds coet Third place for the month went to the Leghorn-Red incross entry of Rlppely a Miller of Coon Rapids la with 632 eggs worth $3490 and J2334 net profit The Poultry Improvement
