WEDNESDAY, SKI'TKMBKR 10, SI-X PAGES CID7 Fiesta: Residents celebrate heritage Continued from Page I Lopez said Saturday's Hispanic festivities were for everyone. Parked in a row of lawn chairs along the parade route down Douglas Avenue, Julie and Bob Spoolstra along widi their two daughters cheered as clusters of Mexican dancers, mariachi bands and horse-riding cowboys passed. "You hear Hispanic and tend to lump it all into one culture. But the variety of customs and dances, even just in Mexico, is really remarkable," Julie Spoolstra said. "I feel like I saw a lot of that here today." Leading the charge during Saturday's parade was David Novarro, morning anchor of "Fox News in The Morning." Though born and raised in New York, Novarro said his family's roots extend back to Puerto Rico as well as Mexico.

"It's a real mixture of cultures, one I'm very proud of," the Naperville resident said. After the parade, Elginites poured into the city's Civic Center where Spanish music played and Hispanic-inspired food was served. That's where a hungry Bob Spoolstra headed as the parade neared its end. "I'm looking forward to getting an empanada. That's one Spanish word I've got down," he said.
