She was a published poet, appearing in the National Library of Poehy in 1996, and contributed her poetry to church services. She was a very active member of first Presbyterian Church of Elgin and held various offices within the church.

She was also a member of Presbyterian Women United, a past member of the Oak Crest Residence board of directors and a past president of the Perry Literary Circle of Elgin. In addition, she was an avid gardener. 'Surviving are her daughters, Linda Anne (James) Lindon of Burr Ridge and Sara (Jack) Zook Shanahan of Golden, grandchildren, Kirsten Cantrell Zook, Sara PuTsbury Lindon, Susan Gorrado, and Michael, Daniel, Timothy and Deborah Shanahan; cousin, Dr. Rob- ert C. Vaughan of Midlothian; and nephew, Joseph PuTsbury of Pomona, Calif.

Christensen. The longtime resident, who died last week, left his mark on his hometown's history by doing much restoration work in several noteworthy structures. A carpenter by trade, Christensen was instrumental in the restoration of. the Beith House, the Garfield Farm House in LaFox, the Durant Peterson House hi western SL Charles, the Dunham Hunt Museum in downtown SL Charles and the bell tower at Shelby School "Dad loved a challenge," said his son Richard Christensen. "He loved old things.

"When it came to wood or mechanics, there wasn't anything he couldn't do. He could fix anything" Christensen became a carpenter in 1939 but then detoured from the trade for a fewyears while he served in the Army's anti-aircraft division and the Corps of Engineers during World War EL Upon returning, he worked as a carpenter with his father to build houses for several years. He then owned and operated Christensen Brothers with Ms brother, the late Ejlev, during the early 1960s before he went to work for another SL Charles outfiL He finished off his career working on his own, doing remodeBng and building additions. He could visualize a completed remodeling job just by looking at the existing rooms and then easily map it out for homeowners. "He got a reputation that he could do anything," Christensen said.

"He had customers, who, until they died, he was the only one who they would let work on their house." Born Dec. 4, 1958, to Jack and Shirley (nee KageD McManaman, she died Friday, August 13, 1999, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Burial will be private. She was a member of SL John's Lutheran Church of Elgin. She is survived by her parents; brother Jay (Pam) McManaman; and sister Leslie (Eric) Olson, all of Elgin.

Richardson, 79, of rural Elgin, wfll be held at 11 ajn. today, at Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park SL, Hampshire. Born July 27, 1920, in Hampshire, to Fred and Edith (nee Brunscheon) Richardson, he died suddenly Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at Prpvena SL Joseph Hospital, Elgin. Early in his career, Mr. Richardson had farmed and worked for Marlowe's Feed and Hatchery of Huntiey, where he met his wife, Elmina. The couple farmed in the Hampshire and Elgin area, and Donald also worked as an AGRI Pro sales- man untfl his death. He was a member of Country Evangelical Covenant Church in Elgin and Elgin Moose Lodge Surviving are his wife, Rlrnirm Richardson (nee Olson), whom he married June 24, 1945; children, Ginger (Keith) Wiling of Leaf River, HL, Glen Richardson of Elgin and Gail (Edward) Bove HI of Homewood; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Vernell (Norma) Richardson of Maple Park and Fredrick (Elaine) Richardson of South Elgin; sisters, Doris (William) Kahle of Tupelo, and Velma (LaVern) Holtz of Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews.

Bom April 26,1925, in Gaiesburg, to Earl and Lucille (nee Slater) Bushong, she passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1S99, at the home of her son, Bruce Self, near Eroum. Following cremation, she will be laid to rest with her parents in Lynwood Cemetery, Gaiesburg. During her childhood, Darlene's family moved to Chicago where her father worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. She attended school in Cicero and graduated with the Class of 1942 from Morton East High School, where she was the cheerleading team captain and a member of the homecoming court.

Following high school she worked at Spiegel's and Alden's stores in Chicago until 1947 when she married her high school sweetheart, Clarence E. Self on Feb. 22. The couple made their home in Madison, Wis, where Clarence attended the university and played football He later became a professional football player and their lives followed his career to Chicago, Detroit and finally to the Green Bay Packers. In later years, Darlene moved to Fort Myers.

She resided there until 1998 when she went to live with her daughter in Seabrook, Texas. Plagued by advancing emphysema, she moved to Elburn in 1999 where she spent her last days with her son and his family Darlene spent many years involved in school activities where she was predictably "front and center" whenever her children were involved. She also enjoyed great evenings with her ladies poker club. Nothing made her smile, however, like the thought of her children and grandchildren, for whom she lived. Surviving are her children, Cynthia (J.J.) Cantini Jr.

of Galveston. Texas, and Bruce (Margie) Self of Elburn; their father, Clarence Self of Lake Geneva, grandchildren, Amber and Megan Cantini of Galveston, and Jason, Alex and Jackie Self of Elburn; brother, Rex E. He practiced dentistry in Chicago for 32 years and was on courtesy staff at Columbus Hospital He provided dental care to the Missionaiy Sisters of Sacred Heart for many years. He was a member of SL Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, El, Rock River Country Club, the Chicago and Illinois Dental Societies and past president of the Lakeyiew Lions Club.
