This time, both Springfield and school records were felled. Junior Tom Bergerstock piled up 175 yards and four touchdowns, the last of which broke former AU-American Jeff Wittman's 1992 school records for rushing touchdowns and points scored in a season, as the 22nd-ranked Bombers steam-rolled the Pride 37-8 on Senior Day at Butterfield Stadium "It's great to be in the record books with all those great names," Bergerstock said. "There's such a great history here." And to think that in August, the running back position was a question mark That long-since stopped being a concern for Ithaca coach Mike Welch, whose team improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8 with games rernaining against Alfred (6-2, 3-1 E8) and No.

"The kids are real excited to move oa We've been second (to Vestal) quite a few times the past few seasons." Vestal coach Jim Murphy had mixed emotions following the end of his team's season. "It's very disappointing," Murphy said. "Our goal this season was to win the Section 4 title and go to the state tournament.

Instead, it will be Ithaca moving on to state Class AA playoffs as it ousted the Golden Bears on penalty kicks, 4-3, after the two teams play ed to a 1-1 tie Saturday in the Section 4 final at the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Will Miller, Ithaca's final shooter in the round of penalty kicks, sent the Little Red into the state quarterfinals when he beat Vestal goalie Mike Economou to break a 3-all tie. "It was a very tenacious soccer game, with a lot of ebb and flow," Ithaca coach Jeff DuMont said, "We certainly could have won penal- ty kicks our guys were very determined. We felt very deserving to walk away as a winner." The two teams are officially co-champions.

The Bobcats were held to just one goal at SUNY Cortland on Saturday, a season low, but that was all they needed for a 1-0 win over Chenango Forks that claimed a third consecutive Section 4 Class championship. Senior forward Ellyn Grant-Keane scored in the match's 12th minute, and Lansing (21-0) clamped down on the back end from there, seldom allowing the Blue Devils a buildup and minimizing their quality scoring chances.

Princeton scored 24 consecutive points, got the game-winning touchdown on a naked bootleg and then held off a feverish Cornell rally with some help from a mysterious fake spike penalty to secure a 31-26 victory. Princeton's Jordan Culbreath rushed for 169 yards on 24 carries, but it was quarterback Brian Anderson who got the call on a fourth-and-one from the Cornell 20-yard line with 1 minute, 40 seconds remaining. With all of the other players on the field stacked up the middle, Anderson faked a handoff Radio: WHCU-AM (870) Online updates: www.ithacajournal.comsports and wheeled to the left, scampering into the end zone to give Princeton (3-4, 2-2 Ivy League) a commanding 12-point lead.

But what appeared to be mere icing on the cake was nothing compared to what followed.
