fr 1 i Emerson Events Mrs. Florence Patton EHS Alumni Banquet June 12 in Red Oak Emerson Alumni banquet will be held Saturday evening, June 12, at the Holiday Inn in Red Oak. Registration will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m. with dinner following. Cost will be around $5.00.

Mr. and Mrs. William Douglas, Kathy and Bobbie, and Barbara Bolton of Henderson went to Des Moines Friday and visited many interesting places, and on Saturday attended the boys state track meet in which Chris Douglas was a participant. Mr. and Mrs.

Glen Nelson announce the arrival of a baby daughter, born May 28, at the Edmundson hospital in Council Bluffs. She has been named Cheyenne and weighed in at 6 9 oz. Mr. and Mrs. H.E.

Greenwood arrived home Thursday from Lincoln where the latter had been hospitalized for two weeks, and Mr. Greenwood spent the time at the home of their daugher, Mrs. Russell Carlson. Their daughter accompanied them home and her family came on Friday evening to spend Memorial Day week end. They returned to Lincoln Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Patton and Mrs. Helen Stille spent from Saturday until Monday with their son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.

Bernard Patton, Gary, Barry and Pamela in Bettendorf. Sunday evening at 5 p.m. the family attended commencement of the Bettendorf High school as Gary Patton was a member of the class. He was given special recognition as an honor student in the class of 387 students. A reception for family and friends was held at the Patton home following the services.

Airman 1st Class Brent Eastwood, who is stationed at Little Rock, arrived home Friday to spend a week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Eastwood and Darla. The family spent the week end with their son and brother, Randy Eastwood and family, and helped the family move from Geneva, to Lincoln, Nebr. Randy has been teaching in Geneva but now has taken employment with First Federal Savings and Loan.

Sewing Circle met Tuesday afternoon, May 25, at the Community building for a noon potluck dinner. Mrs. Milo Schick and Mrs. Paul Jones were hostesses. Sixteen members were present and the afternoon was spent piecing quilt blocks.

Heber Hillyer was the birthday celebrant on Sunday when family members joined in celebrating his natal day. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Ross Bryant, Mr. and Mrs.

Floyd Hillyer, Scott, Gregg and Brian; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Phelps, Mrs. Alta Hathaway and Lillian Bishop of Glenwood. G.W.

Carlson was treated for pneumonia at Murphy Memorial hospital in Red Oak from Wednesday until Sunday. Chad Fahn of Panama spent from Saturday until Monday with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Porter. David Edie of Omaha spent Memorial Day with his mother, Mrs.

Hebe Edie. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Reed of Omaha arrived on Friday evening to be house guests of her sister, Mrs. O.G.

Bayes, until Monday afternoon. Additional dinner guests Sunday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Bayes of Omaha. Sunday evening dinner guests at the Quentin Johnson home included Mr.

and Mrs. Don Johnson, Sheila, Brent and Todd of Olathe, Mrs. Marilyn Baker of Fremont, Mr. and Mrs. Don Hicks, Lynn and Leslie of Stanton; Mr.

and Mrs. Einar Johnson and Mrs. Clarence Magneson, all of Red Oak, and Rev. Jim Campbell. Mr.

and Mrs. David Evans and family of Bettendorf arrived Friday evening to spend the long week end in the parental Jack Evans home. Harva Received Degree Harva Hillyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hillyer of Imogene, was awarded her Bachelor of Arts degree (Summa Cum Laude) in International Studies from Graceland College at Lamoni on May 23.

Harva is a 1973 graduate of Nishna Valley. While at Graceland, Harva participated in two winter term programs. January of 1974 was spent in Wesleco, Texas, with side trips into Mexico. She spent January of 1976 in Hawaii. Harva was one of six Graceland students to take part in a new program of study at Kansai University in Osaka, Japan for the school term of 1974-75.

Besides being a full time student at the university, she was employed by Acme Foreign Language Institute to teach the English language to businessmen, students, and secretaries. Harva is a member of Phi Alpha Theta (International Historical Honor Society). She served on the Intercultural Affairs Committee, Intercultural Club, and was assistant orientator for students planning to participate in the Graceland Japan Study Program. For her contribution in this field, she was awarded a Special Area Award in the Intercultural Program at the annual awards day. Her plans for this fall include returning to Japan to further her study of the Japanese language.

Smith announce the engagement of their daughter, Marilee Annette, and Randall 0.

Morris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Morris of Henderson. Miss Smith is a sophomore at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, majoring in Elementary Education. Her fiance, a 1971 graduate of Nishna Valley Community High school, Hastings, is a N.W.M.S.U.

graduate with a major in Physical Education and Biology. No date has been set for the wedding. Randy Morris Accepts Position At Fenton Randy Morris, a 1971 graduate of Nishna Valley Community High school, is a 1976 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University with a major in Physical Education and Biology. He has accepted a coaching and teaching position at Sentral Community High school at Fenton. His duties are head boys basketball coach, assistant football coach, along with science teaching.

He is currently NV baseball coach for 1976. Randy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Morris of Henderson. Saturday night Bernice Shook attended the wedding at the Oaks church for Chris Stevens and Carol Stenger.

Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Dean Perry, Brenda and Brian, Council Bluffs. Mr. and Mrs.

Gordon Frink attended the Doug Nuckolls wedding Saturday afternoon at Emerson. Sheryl and Daveen LaRue of McComb, 111., spent the week end with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Babe Frink. Monday visitors were Mr.

and Mrs. Max Ireland, Storm Lake, and Grace Antrim, Red Oak, enjoying a Monday dinner with them. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Butler of Omaha spent Sunday with her brother, William Harbor.

Mrs. Fern Buis of Omaha, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Allensworth had Thursday dinner with her sister, Florence Guyer of Emerson, to celebrate Mrs. Guyer's 83rd birthday.

Mrs. James Stewart of Omaha visited her mother, Fern Fleming, Sunday. Also spending the week end with his mother was Dale Fleming of Tarkio, Mo. Elmer Kadel and Harold Hughes left Saturday for Fergus Falls for a fishing trip, and while there Elmer will visit with his brother Floyd. Mr.

and Mrs. Morris Harbor and Jack attended the Scheffel-Calder wedding in Omaha Saturday. Sunday visitors at the Elmer Bergantzel home were Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bergantzel, Mrs.

Dolly Frink, Mike and Harvey Frink. Howard Allensworth and daughter Ardith, and the Richard Allensworths visited Fern Allensworth at the Memorial hospital in Red Oak Sunday. They are preparing her for an operation this coming week. Karen Bodwell and sons have moved into the Elmer Kadel house in the north end of town. Mrs.

Lloyd Collier and Mrs. Maxine Schaffer of Mt. Ayr had Sunday dinner with the Arthur Allensworths, and later attended the Benton school reunion. Tammy, Brenda and Scott Allensworth of Red Oak spent Sunday with their grandparents, the Arthur Allensworths. Karen Bodwell and sons, and Caroline Faust and son of Red Oak spent the week end at Viking Lake.

Mrs. Charles Paul spent a few days at Clinton visiting her mother, Mrs. Charles Froeschle, and attending her sister's graduation from high school, returning this last Saturday. Her younger sister Lisa came back with Mrs. Paul to spend a few weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Slump and Rusty, Sioux City, spent Sunday and Monday with the Delaine Slumps. Monday visitors were Mr. and Mrs.

Jack Slump, Des Moines, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rogers, Red Oak. Ted Shook returned from the Red Oak hospital Sunday morning after five days. Mr.

and Mrs. Leroy Shook and Tammy, Ames, spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Shook.

Heather Shook, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Shook, spent the week with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Frink.

Melva Christofferson attended her nieces funeral, Mrs. Marvin Sorensen, Thursday in Council Bluffs. Gregg Kadel and Daryl Wilson are on a trip to Minnesota, visiting relatives of Gregg's, at Minneapolis and Benson. Melva Christofferson visited for a short time with Mrs. Helen Winchester, who is staying with her son Gene Winchester in Emerson.

Grace Bowen flew to Joplin, where she was picked up by her brother and drove on to Rogers, to attend her sister's 50th anniversary. which was founded in 1861. Graduating Magna Cum Laude was David Boileau, Rt. 1, Henderson. Dr.

Helen Miner Miller, director of programs for the Gulf Oil Foundation in Pittsburgh, delivered the commencement address. Honorary degrees were awarded to Miller and the Rev. Gerhard E. Frost, a member of the Luther Theological Seminary faculty. A total of 159 seniors graduated with cum laude, 55 magna cum laude and 30 summa cum laude.

The iMalvern Leader Thursday, Junes, Malvern, Iowa Services Were May 29 For Mrs. Maude Young Lillie Maude Creason was born March 20, 1881 in Doniphan, Nebraska, the daughter of John and Ruth Creason. She was married to William Young June 28, 1905 at Henderson. Prior to moving to Glenwood about twenty-five years ago, they spent their life Hastings. Mrs.

Young was a member of the Methodist church at Hastings. Following a heart attack Tuesday, Mrs. Young was taken to a Council Bluffs hospital where her death occurred Wednesday. Surviving are two children; Mrs. Harold (Irene) Bixler of Bradenton, and Gerald Young of Winnebago, two grandsons and seven great grandchildren; two sisters.

Mrs. Josephine Burke of Longmont, and Mrs. Manota Henderson of Doniphan, Nebr. The service for Mrs. Young was at Gnu.T- United Methodist church, Glenwood.

May 2'i. at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Harvey G. Quandt officiating.

Neil McPherron was vocal soloist, Mrs. Harvey Quandt the organist. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
