4 Republican State Chairman Tom Stoner today urged western Iowa Republicans to support the party by attending the Republican Pork Barbecue at the West Pottawattamie Fairgrounds near Council Bluffs this Saturday. Stoner said the barbecue, featuring Arkansas Congressional contender Judy Petty, will be a "chance for Republicans to experience an enjoyable evening and contribute to the financial welfare of the party organization as we prepare for the 1976 campaign." In addition, Stoner urged Fifth District Republicans to attend a workshop on campaign techniques which will be held Saturday at the Holiday Inn, Council Bluffs. The newly-elected state chairman said plans now have been finalized for the barbecue which will be held at the West Pottawattamie Fairgrounds, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the barbecue may be obtained by contacting local Republican leaders, Republican State Headquarters in Des Moines or at the fairgrounds Saturday evening. Stoner said that proceeds from the dinner, which will cost $25 per person, will be used to finance on-going party programs and eliminate the $60,000 debt incurred in the 1974 campaigns.

"It is no secret that our primary emphasis at this time is elimination of the debt. Republicans in western Iowa can contribute to this effort by purchasing a ticket to the barbecue and planning to attend," Stoner said. Mrs. Petty gained national attention last year when she became the first general election opponent for veteran Democrat Congressman Wilbur Mills in 36 years. She received 42 percent of the vote.
