The star of "Tom Jones," which was nominated for 10 awards this year, is believed by many to be the best young actor on stage or screen today. The picture is coming to the Capri Theater in the middle of April. The Charles Theater is showing "Irma La Douce" which has been nominated for three awards: performance by an actress, Shirley MacLaine; cinematography of a color picture and scoring of music.

WKAB-TV, Channel 32, went on the air Thursday at 6:30 p.m. after the telephone microwave service was completed. The returning ABC network will have picked up all of WCOV's ABC programs this week, and the remaining ABC shows on Channel 12 will be switched over on May 17. The station has completed programming, and plans to feature daily movies. Jim Nabors, of Sylacauga, who plays Gomer Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show" is featured in the March 28 edition of TV Guide.

The article is about Jim's new show, which will be on CBS-TV next season. The show, "Gomer Pyle, USMC" is a series on his misadventures as a Marine recruit. "A Tiger Walks" has been held over at the Empire and this movie-for-the-whole-family has had near-capacity crowds at every showing. In this story of a young girl's faith in justice for all-even a wild animal, Brian Keith plays the part of a county official assigned to kill a wandering tiger. Keith is a i 1 i a to Disney fans as he has played in "The Parent Trap" and "Savage Sam." "The Victors" with Vince Edwards, George Hamilton and Romy Schneider is next at the Empire.

Starting Thursday at the Capri Theater is "Captain Newman M.D.," which itself has garnered three Academy Award nominations performance by an actor in a supporting role, sound and screenplay. Taken from the best-selling book, the film is the story of life in the neuro-psychiatric section of an Army hospital. It stars Tony Curtis and Gregory Peck. Your best bet in movies this week is "Seven 'Days in May," the story of treachery in our government, a conspiracy by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to take over the White House by force. Burt Lancaster stars as the general who believes that his plot to take over the government is in the best interests of the country.

The Marine colonel who accidentally discovers the plot is portrayed by Kirk Douglas. Ava Gardner, making her first appearance in Hollywood in more than a decade, returned from Spain for the film's only starring role. She plays a Washington socialite whose romances become an integral part of the plot. The film is taken from the best-selling book by newspapermen Fletcher Knebel and Charles W. Bailey II.

The Paramount will show "Kissin Cousins" a film which features not one, but two Elvis Presleys, Thursday. By playing a dual role, Elvis gets two girl friends, Cynthia Pepper of "My Little Margie" fame and Yvonne Craig who appeared briefly in "It Happened at the World's Fair." The film is a fairly amusing story of a Tennessee hillbilly family who fights off an attempt by the government to obtain their mountain for an ICBM missile base. STARTING THURSDAY ll-l All The narrative was written by jazz critic Nat Hentoff, and delivered by Bernstein, who turned the conducting over to the young American composer of the piece, Gunther Schuller. Bernstein, who has an enviable way of humanizing his programs, added a warm touch before the selection began by introducing Schuller's father, a member of the New York Philharmonic which then played the composition. It would have taken a hard man to resist the contagious fun of the occasion as express by the violinist who sat behind Bernstein and could-not stop smiling as the piece and the story progressed.
