Recorded at Atomic Recording Studio in Brooklyn, N.Y., the disc arrives in the wake of renewed interest in Sabatino and McGuire's former emo band Pencey Prep, which also featured guitarist Frank Iero, now with My Chemical Romance.

Tension with Pencey Prep's former label, Eyeball Records, fueled the content of many of songs on "Wait Hope." In 2001, Eyeball Records reissued Pencey Prep's "Heartbreak in Stereo." The label reissued the recording without the band's permission and failed to offer any monetary compensation to the former band members in Pencey Prep. A Pencey Prep fan started a My Space page dedicated to the band. When the fan decided to close it, Sabatino offered to take it over and include B-sides, older tracks and videos for fans. "I think there are slight influences on some of the songs," he said. Since the band's 2005 CD, Sabatino has taken vocal lessons and the band has dropped down from a quartet to a trio.
