Dally News photo by Virginia Keetlng Symphony This weekend winds up the Port Angeles Symphony season with a pops concert tonight at 8 o'clock in the High School auditorium; "The Cabaret," dinner dance sponsored by the Symphony League Saturday at 6:30 p.m.; and a concert Sunday at 3 p.m. by the symphony- sponsored Youth Orchestra directed by Frederick Johnson in the Peninsula College Little Theater. "The Good Old Days" is the theme for the symphony weekend. Old show tunes are offered in the concert; the benefit dinner dance is planned to recreate a cabaret of yesteryear; and "good old days" bargains in 1975-76 season tickets will be offered for the first time tonight. Tonight's concert will feature Lukas Foss' "Go For Baroque" in a riot of color, costume and choreography staged by Billie Hoglund and Sylvia Wanner.

The Community Chorus will sing "Finlandia" in Finnish, directed by J. Marvin Pollard. The Youth Orchestra will play in the opening number a medley from "Jesus Christ, Superstar." The program is oriented to the Bicentennial, with freedom songs and costumes of the Revolutionary War era. I I I 88 1 Tokyo Matsu and the "Top Hands" are featured tonight and Saturday night at the Vets Club in Sequim. "Schade" returns to Willy's in Sequim.

"Judy and the Merry Makers" play again at the Salt Creek Inn Saturday night. The Dave Bunker Show, a four- piece band, plays country rock at the Vagabond in Forks both nights. "Aim," a four piece rock band from Seattle is featured at the Sawtooth; "Alias Smith and Smith" continues in Aggie's Starlite Room; "The Denny Mann Duo" plays at Rollf's, with "The Dungeness River Bottom" Monday nights. The "River Bottom" plays tonight and Saturday night at the Top Spot. The Jack Kern Trio plays both nights at the Elks Club in the lounge.

"The Dusters" play both nights at the Eagles. At the Movies Monday at 7 p.m. Peninsula College Little Theater will show the third program in "Museum Without Walls," a five part film series sponsored by Arts in Action and the college Community Service Committee. The film is "The Impressionists; Kenetic Art in Paris; the Art Conservator." The Lincoln Theater is showing "Blazing Saddles" with Mel Brooks, in a western comedy. Rated restricted under age 17.

Companion feature is "Play It Again, Sam," based on Woody Allen's hit Broadway comedy. Rated PG, parental guidance suggested. Showing at the Drive-In Theater is Rancho DeLuxe, rated and Charles Bronson in "Mr. Majestyk," rated PG. I I I I Toastm is tress to hear finalists Toastmistress Council No 4 International Toastmistress Clubs will have its annual speech contest Saturday at 7 p.m.

at The Poplars in Silver dale. Finalists who have won in this year's speech contest at club level will be speakers at this meeting. They are: Zelma Hetrick, Rhododendron Toastmistress Club, Port Townsend; Juanita Barnes, Juan de Fuca Club, Port Angeles; Dorothy Beale, Klallam Club, Sequim; Lorraine Berg, Speechcombers Club, Forks; and Doris Belinski, Sun-Up Club, Bremerton. Miss Lyndell Griffith of Port Angeles is the speech contest chairman. Toastmistress for this event will be Clara Walker, Bremerton.

The winner of the speech contest will compete at Pacific Northwest Regional Conference in May. EAGLES AUXILIARY The Eagles Auxiliary will meet tonight with nomination of officers. Volunteers are needed to help decorate the float for the Sequim Irrigation Festival Parade and a workday will be planned. GRANGE AUXILIARY Members worked on projects for the Country Fair when Sequim Prairie Grange Auxiliary met. Lilah Miles and Ann White were hostesses for a dessert luncheon.

A quilting bee is among future projects. The next meeting will be May 16 at 10 a.m. Members are to bring sack lunches. Dessert will be served. SEQUIM GRANDMOTHERS Plans were made for the state convention at Yakima in May when Sequim Prairie Grandmothers Club met with 21 members and two guests.

Louise Kohring installed the new officers, Gertrude Baker, president; Laura Fernie, first vice president; Clara Olson, second vice president; Josephine Fox, treasurer; Marie Mayer, secretary; Lillian Diimmel, chaplain; and Nellie Bucher, musician. May hostesses are Clara Olson, Etra Olson and Helen McConville. EVA MILLER AUXILIARY The Eva Miller Orthopedic Auxiliary met at the home.of Mrs. Vern Weed. The March 29 food sale proceeds of $108 were sent to the Children's Orthopedic Hospital in Seattle.

A garage sale will be May 31 at the home of Mrs. Ed Calvert, 2707 So. Laurel. Those with donations may call 452-2446. A card party for those attending, will follow the next business meeting with a 50 cent donation for the Boy Scouts to clean roadside The Jean Sprague Gallery, Fillmore at Clay streets in Port Townsend, will open May 1.

The first show of the season through May 31 will include paintings and bronze sculptures by Ona Fletcher. Gallery is open from 1 to 5 p.m. daily. Henderson House Gallery at Dungeness features the work of Olympic Peninsula artists in all media in a restored 1880 farmhouse at Dungeness Road and Marine Drive. Hours are noon to 6 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The exhibit of slab built vases by Karen Dean and watercolors by Virginia Dean continues through April at the Skylight Gallery, 115 N. Laurel open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Sunday. Murder suspect before court SALEM, Ore.

(AP) Richard Laurence Marquette, 40, Salem, was arraigned Wednesday on a murder charge in connection with the slaying and mutilation of a Scio woman last weekend. Salem lawyer Rodney Miller accepted an appointment to defend Marquette when the accused slayer appeared before Circuit Court Judge Val Sloper of Marion County. The case was continued until next Wednesday. Marquette, held without bail, is accused in the death of Betty Lucille Wilson, 35, whose body was found slashed and cut into several pieces under a bridge over Brown's Island slough in the Salem area. Dr.

William Brady, state medical examiner, said she was strangled or was choked to death. 'S hospital. It will be at the home of Mrs. Michael Cooper, 824 Georgiana May 15. ROYAL NEIGHBORS The Olympic Peninsula District meeting of Royal Neighbors of America was in Port Angeles at Angeles Grange Hall.

New members initiated were, Rudy Parks, Helen Powell, and Mildred Bush of Quilcene; and Violet Mae Walker, Susan Minish, Barbara Helpenstell, Mary E. Miner Carlson, Anna M. Usk, La Vern L. Keys, Agnes S. Helgensen, Alice M.

Hansen, and Helen E. Carlson. New district officers are, oracle, Clare French of Quilcene; past oracle, Betty Chapman of Port Angeles; vice oracle, Eunice Govan of Sequim; chancellor, Lucille Lacey of Port Angeles; recorder, receiver, Katherine Borden of Quilcene; musician, Kathleen Nelson of Port Angeles. A cake was cut commemorating the 80th birthday of the Royal Neighbors lodge and the 60th birthday of Port Angeles lodge. Esta Baxter was present and honored as a charter member of Port Angeles lodge.

PAST MATRONS CLUB Mrs. Myra Munroe was initiated into the Port Angeles Past Matrons Club when it met at the home of Mrs. Opal Brandland. Cohostesses were Mmes. Frances Overhulse, Myrtle Walkling and Emily Weaver.

ORTHOPEDIC AUXILIARY Women of the Port Angeles Children's Orthopedic Auxiliary plan a sale of plants, collectibles, bakery goods, dishes, sporting equipment and clothing at the Angeles Grange hall May 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds of the sale will go to the Children's Orthopedic Hospital. DUPLICATE BRIDGE Winners at Elks Duplicate Bridge Club were, first, Mrs. Donald Thompson and David Callin; second, Mrs.

Norman Pollock and Mrs. John Van Sant; third, Mrs. A.E. Tweter and Mrs. C.L.

Marquardt; fourth, Mrs. Vernon Mantle and Mrs. D.M. Lacey. VFW AUXILIARY Marguerite Minty, past state president, was honored when Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No.

4760 met in Sequim. She was given a life membership for serving as musician for many years. Beatrice Prince, Americanism chairman, and members of the Junior Unit will present American flags to rooms in the Sequim Middle School, and Elementary School, plus building flags; and to the Adventist Church School and First Baptist Church School with flag etiquette books for the students. Visitors from Forks and Port Angeles attended the meeting. JOYCE HORSETORIANS The Joyce Horsetorians Saddle Club's eleventh annual smorgasboard trail ride will be Sunday.

Starting at Durrwachter Road, the ride will leave in two groups, at 10 and 11 a.m. The ride is open to all horsemen. The smorgasbord at Salt Creek Recreation Park community kitchen from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. is open to the public.

ANGELES GRANGE Tables were decorated with spring flowers by Katherine Tikka when Angeles Grange members met for a potluck dinner and to make final plans for a flea market at the grange hall May 3. John Butler is chairman. There will be plants for sale and a snack bar. Anyone wishing to reserve tables may call 457-1455.

WOMAN'S LITERARY CLUB New officers of the Woman's Literary Club installed at the April meeting were Mrs. Leona Farrington, president; Mrs. Lloyd Flatau, vice president; Mrs. Charles Beam, recording secretary; Mrs. Thomas Smith, financial secretary; Mrs.

Rheo Gilmore, treasurer; Mrs. Vera Brown, musician; Mrs. P.J. McGuire, librarian; Mrs. Alice Butler, rental officer; Mrs.

Lloyd Buchholz, publicity; Mrs. Leonard Butler, three- year trustee; and Mrs. Ada Keith, parliamentarian. Mrs. William Neuman was marshal and Mrs.

Keith was installing officer. Mrs. Ralph Weleker was a guest from Des Moines, and Mrs. John Doane was welcomed as a new member. The club honored Mrs.

Vera Brown, outgoing president. Members of the Book Committee were hostesses with Mrs. Beam and Mrs. McGuire pouring. The May 2 meeting will honor Mothers Day.

Olympus Council, Clallam and Jefferson counties, will clean the 12 miles of U.S. Highway 101 along Lake Crescent of trash and "anything not natural" the morning of May 3, according to Les Bradford, scout executive.

The scouts will comb both sides of the highway and the shoreline, he said. The project is part of the "Save Our American Resources" program and will be done in cooperation with Olympic National Park, Bradford said. The scouts will also have a camporee Friday night near Fairholm Resort with recreation the afternoon of May 3 and a campfire that night. This is the third year for the clean-up but the first time for the camporee, he said. It is hoped the recreational activities will encourage more boys to turn out.

Last year the scouts collected three truckloads of debris and earned about $70 from recyclable trash and bottles. Participating scouts will receive patches and units will receive ribbons. Olympic National Park will provide lunch Saturday.
