Roxbury gets more fast food BY MATT MANOCHIO DAILY RECORD ROXBURY A new Fudduckers restaurant will soon occupy the space formerly filled by Chi Chi's at the Roxbury Mall, the township planning office said Monday.

The hamburger chain doesn't need to go before the township's planning or zoning boards for a hearing because the location's use won't change, said a planning official. Fuddruckers already has acquired a zoning permit and is in the process of getting necessary building permits to redesign the vacant restaurant's interior. Neil Goldstein, of Glen Rockbased The Goldstein Group, the real estate firm that brokered the deal, said the restaurant is expected to open in a few months and will occupy 7,200 square feet. "I believe they were supposed to open in the fall," Goldstein said. Goldstein said several factors played into the restaurant chain's decision to come to Succasunna.

"It was an end-cap unit, visibility, in a market that's growing," he said. "It's a good regional area. There's a lot happening out in that area. White Castle did gangbusters out there." The Chi Chi's restaurant that used to occupy that spot closed about a year and a half ago. The restaurant's front faces Route 10.

Fuddruckers also has restaurants on Route 46 in Parsippany, on Route 22 in Bridgewater and on Route 23 in Wayne. Calls to Fuddruckers' corporate headquarters were not returned. Scott Garret, the bill's sponsor.

Garrett, R-Wantage, introduced the legislation, the Musconetcong Wild and Scenic Rivers Act in March 2005. The Musconetcong runs from Lake Hopatcong to the Delaware River south of Phillipsburg. It forms part of the border between Morris and Warren counties. Lake Musconetcong in Netcong and Stanhope was formed when a dam was built on the river. The legislation received broad support from all members of the New Jersey delegation, 18 municipalities along the river, and the National Park Service..
