Mrs. Heber C. Tippetts, Rouie 3, has graduated from basic aircraft mechanic at the San Angelo, Texas army air field bombardier school, qiier completing an intensive 100- hour course in bomber maintenance. He entered the service in January, 1942, and served at Wichita Falls. Toxas; Denver, San Antonio and Uvalde, Texas, before assignment to San Angelo.

Pfc. Carl A. Watkins, huband of Mrs. Mae Watkins of 359 North Fiist East street, has recently completed an' intensive army air forces clerical course. He was graduated from a large clerical i'c''ool conducted for the Army air forces technical training command by the Anderson organization, private school operators in Los Angeles.

He was especial- ij ctosen for the course and was trained in the preparation of combat, ant? other flight orders for aimy air forces units, maintenance of records for inspection and repair of aircraft and handling of correspondence between fiolcls and baots of the army air forces. Pfc. Merlin D. husband i.f Elmora Lowry of 373 East lourth North, Provo has begun an intensive course of study in aviation mechanics at Amarillo, Texas, army air field technical school. He will spend several months at this great mechanics' school and upon graduation will oe sent to one of Uncle Sam's air oases there to do his part in keeping America's flying fortresses harassing the Axis. Corpoial Theron Valeo Kunhi of 173 West Fourth North, Provo is at present attending the antiaircraft art'Hery school at Camp Dov.s, North Carolina.

Capt. Sterling J. Strate, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Strate of Provo is now enrolled as a student oft" rer in the army air forces preflight school (pilot) at Maxwell field, located on the outskirts of Montgomery, where he is re- rviving 1 an intensive course i-i giound training.

Upon completion of his instructions here he will be sent to one of the primary flying schools in the army air forces southeast training center for the f-rot phase of his flight training. Technical Corporal Jack F. Roullett, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Roullett, 171 South University provo, has been enrolled a special course of instruction the signal corps school at Camp Murphy, Florida.

He was selected for this specialized training on the basis of his aptitude. Criminal Cases Report Released A total of 53 criminal cases were handled by the Fourth district court in Utah county in 1942, according to a report by County Clerk C. A. Grant. Of these, 15 cases were dismissed, 30 defendants pleaded guilty, and six were found guilty by a jury.

Seventeen defendants received probations or suspended sentences, six were sentenced to local jails, ono was remanded to a juvenile institution, and 12 were sentenced to pay fines or costs. The cases: Manslaughter 1, robbery 1, minor assault 3, burglary 14, larceny, except auto theft 3, forgery and counterfeiting 8, rape 1, other sex offenses 1. nareotis drug laws 1, nonsupport and neglect 1, liquor laws 2, driving while intoxicated 9, other motor vehicle laws 2. Cessation of gold mining in Western states, in order to use the miners for the extraction of more strategic minerals, closed down 84 per cent of the lodge gold properties in California and 96 per cent of the California placer properties.
