The Most Valuable Player in the National Basketball Association championship series says, however, that the three facets of his life are inseparable. "If I can't play that way any more. I'll be out of the league," Johnson said yesterday after accepting the MVP trophy and a new car from Sport Magazine. "I slap hands so hard that it hurts my teammates, but I have to play that way." His all-around play is typified by the boxscore of the final game of the championship series against Philadelphia. He had 13 points (taking only three shots from the field), 13 rebounds and 13 assists in that game.

Johnson, also the choice as a 1980 rookie, is the second two-time winner in the 14 years a championship series MVP has been chosen. Willis Reed of the New York Knicks won in 1970 and 1973. The O-Yanks outhit the Utica Blue Sox, 18-17, but wound up on the wrong end of a 4-2, 9-7 twinbiU. Oneonta has lost six straight New York-Penn League baseball games since winning its season opener, five of them to Utica.

The Blue Sox, 6-1 leaders of the Eastern Division despite being an independent team made up almost completely of players released by other organizations or bypassed in the draft, go for a 6-0 sweep of the alternate-site series tonight at Oneonta. Jim Riggs continued his lusty hitting for the O-Yanks and shortstop Pedro Medina broke out of his slump, but Utica slammed six homers good for nineruns. Riggs, the New York Yankees' fourth draft pick out of Eastern Michigan University, hit 4-for-4 in the opener and was 6-for-8 on the night to raise his average to .524. Medina was 3-for-17 going into last night, but went 2-for-4 in each game. Riggs doubled twice in the opener, including the hit that drove in both Oneonta runs in the fifth iiining.

But that only halved Utica's lead, which was forged on single runs in each of the first four innings. Utica's first two runs were solo homers by John Hennell and Bob Hendershot. An RBI-single by Hendershot in the third was decisive. Utica led 6-0 after four inniisln the nightcap, but Oneonta scored fiye.runs in the seventh before reliever a Roy Moretti worked out of a bases-loaded jam to pick up his second save of the night. Hennell's second homer last night, a two-run shot in the fourth, gave Utica its 64 lead and Barry Moss belted a three-run homer in the sixth.

NIAGARA FALLS (4-2) broke a first-place tie with Jamestown in the Western Division, rallying for five runs after two outs in the top of the 12th to defeat host Auburn, 7-2. Shawn Barton singled in the go-ahead run Jamestown made five errors and allowed four homers in bowing, 9-3, at Geneva Elmira made six errors and lost, 3, at Erie.
