FOSTER FIELDS LIVING HISTORICAL FARM Kahdena Road, Morris Township. The IHorris County Park Commission's living historical farm. The mansion is open Thursday-Sunday p.m. Each month, most second and fourth Sundays, there will be cooking demonstrations on the original wood-burning stove, using recipes from the turn of the century. "The Timeless Folk Art of Decorative Painting," featuring utilitarian objects that have been painted using a variety of decorative techniques, is on view through Oct 12. As part of its ongoing New Jersey Artists Series, the museum will present the recent work of artist Leah Ja-cobson of Jersey City through May 24, 1998. Admission is $3 for seniors (60 and older) and children under 12. Call (973) 5380454. MORRISTOWN NATIONAL HISTORICAL Morristown. An exhibition of rare maps and plans showing specific military activities during the American Revolution in the Northern Colonies will be on view through Dec. 31.

Related military items will be on view as well. The visitor center and Wick House in Jockey Hollow are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guided tours of the Wick House will be conducted on the hour beginning at 10 a.m. daily.

The last tour of the day will begin at 4 p.m. Park roads are open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Washington's Headquarters is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The museum features old photographs of local historical landmarks and churches as well as old high school and college yearbooks and other exhibits.

Used originally as a general store and later as a post office, this one-room building is now a museum. This year's exhibit, "Early Forms of Illumination," features lighting implements used before candles.

An ex hibit chronicling the 75-year history of the New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department is on display. Also on display are local Lenape Indian artifacts.

Call (973) 292-0161. WHIPPANY RAILWAY MUSEUM Route 10 West and Whippany Road, Whippany. The museum, which features railroad and ocean liner memorabilia, headlights, bells. whistles, photos, tickets and an operating Lionel O-gauge train layout is open on Sun days from noon to 4 p.m. April-October.

The transportation exhibit "Legends of the Titanic," commemorates the 85th anniversary of the sinking of the great luxury liner in April 1912. A special presentation takes a look at the Erie Lackawanna Railroad in the 1960s. There also is a display on the New York, Ontario and Western, titled "Memories of the Old and Weary."
