The Pensacola Gazette of Saturday last gives the following account of the tragical affair at Warrington, a brief notice of which (taken from the Mobile Register) appeared in the Evening Picayune yesterday Tbe quiet town of Warrington was startled from its apathy on Wednesday morning by a tragic occurrence, which shocked alike the feelings of all the Inhabitants.

That our readers may understand the particulars, we will relate the tale as it was told to us. Mr. A. Lamberton, Postmaster at Warrington. discovered, on Tuesday evenine.

Mr J. C. Jnnee, a pilot at tbis port, in a criminal con nection witb nis wife, but be, Jones, escaped from the premises before be could attack him. The circnmstAnoe wrought upon the feelings of Mr. L.

Jones" then turned and ran towards bis bouse, and just as be was entering bis gate way a second snot from Ltarnberton killed bim instantly. The Vicksburg Whig, ot Saturday last, says We have conversed with several planters ving in tbe vicinity daring the last week in relation to the growing cotton crop. They are all of the opinion that the crop will be a short one. They say the late dry weather on the hill lands has caused all the late blooms to fall off consequently, there is no cotton on tbe stalk only what is nearly matured therefore, tha picking season will soon be over, and the crop a light one. We believe the river lands are all more or less affected in the same. Kansas.

By this arrival we have Austin and San Antonio papers to the 11th inst, Galveston papers to the 18th, and a number of other ex changes from the interior and coast towns.

Tbe steamship Nautilus from this port, ar rived at Galveston on Saturday morning last The Galveston News, of the 18th, has re turns of the election from thirty five counties, in which the vote for Governor sums up Pease, Dickson, American, 7,350. Majority for Pease thus far 2,318. In the same, counties Runells, heads Jowers, American, for Lieutenant Governor. The Eastern counties heard from generally, have given majorities for Ward, the Demo cratic candidate for Congress. In the Western District, judging by the returns received, Bell, is elected to Congress, beating Hancock, American, by a considerable ma jority.

The Galveston Confederate learns from a gentleman from the Brazos, that the crops upon that river and in the bordering sections never looked better or promised a more boun tiful yield than at present. Any quantity of corn will be while' the yield of sugar and cotton will be one of the largest ever made in that rich section. Tbe Galveston News, of the 14tb, bas the following paragraphs The health of our city continues good, and we still have some hopes that we will escape a visitation of the yellow fever, though that disease is now in Houston. The weather is auite hot and the wind northerly, which is not considered a favorable direction, but we trust lor a speedy cnange. We regret to learn that several cases of yellow fever have appeared in Houston, and some half a dozen deaths have occurred.

A correspondent, writing yesterday, says "I hear of no new cases to day, and the disease bas not assumed an epidemio form." We are informed that the appearance of the fever bad created quite a panic among the citizens of Houston, and several bad left the town in order to avoid exposure to the disease. The Houston Telegraph is of the opinion that the yellow fever now in that city origi nated mere, and was not imported. ibe fjenrrai lexan says tbe cotton worm has appeared on some plantations in Grimes county. Xt bad done very little damage, but the worst results are feared, as the weather was such as favors the generation of the worm. Tbe Nueces Valley hoists the name of Col.

Kinney as a candidate for the Presidency in 1866. If notoriety, is any advantage. Col Kinney has acquired more of it than usually falls to the lot of one man. He represented himself as belonging to the firm of Reed, Brothers.

Since the origin of the excitement I suppose ten or twelve deaths have occurred, which have been attributed to various causes, but few of which it is thought, would, in orcrfrraxy sea sons, bave been pronounced yellow lever. Indeed, it is now doubted bv some of our oldest physicians, whether we nave yet bad a single case of yeHow fever in Houston tbis season.

I think it doubtful, and yet I would advise all unacclimated persons to stay away until the matter is fully decided, which will be in a few weeks, bo far as tbe business ot our plaoe is concerned, tne reports wbicn have already gone out will as effectually check it, as would the actual existence of the most fatal epidemic. We learn from the Victoria Advocate that Mr. A. Montgomery, of that place, has enter ed into a contract with. the Town Council to clear out all obstructions from the Guadalupe river, between Victoria and Kemper's Bluff, which, it is supposed, may be accomplished in about two months.

We learn from the Civilian that the City Council of Galveston met on the evening of the 13th, to concert measures for the pro tec lion of the city against the introduction of yel low fever. It was not thought necessary to establish cumbrous quarantine regulations; but sufficient for the City Physician to board the steamers, and convey all persons sick of contagious diseases to tbe hospital. Tbe mast crop of Texas, this year, is said to be one of the largest ever known. The San Antonio Sentinel of the 4 th inst says The Indiana are committing depredations on our frontier. A detachment of Capt Cal laghan's company ot rangers will be sent very soon to the sections infested.

Gen. Smith, we nndflratand. haa also ordered troops to the same points, and we may soon expect to hear ot tnese trouoies oeiog iiuieieu. The San Antonio Texan, of the 9th inst. says The health of our city and the trarrotmdiDg country still remains good, and aa yet we i nave naa no epiaeauo uuriug uia preaout season, and for the last month we have had an abundance of rain.

We have never witnessed tbe Polls in our citr opened under more excitement to an tbey were on Monday inornine last. In fact the excitement seemed to reach every class of our citizens, old and vounp. rich and poor, male and female. Prtttant.
