Corniel. From Gallfornitx. As tyeshave stated above, our dates from San Francisco, 6x the arrival of the Cherokee, era to the 1st ult The Alta California of that date contain a short summary oL the state of affairs in California. Froto this Wtr tearn that three fourtbe tbe burnt distinct of San Francisco is rebuilt a'thcugh we presume not in a very substantia manner. The same is said to be the case with Stockton.

Tbe fires did not have as much effeci as we anticipated on tbe price of goods. The large stock of goods on shipboard, and subsequent ar rivals, prevented any great advance. The reports from tbe mining regions are en couraging, particularly' from the quartz region The Morning Post, a new Whig paper established in fan Francisco, says that three of tbe proprie tors nf tbe Canon's Creek vein were about vUiting thn 1st with their families, and would take with them each, the dividend of the previous few weeks, to pay their expenses. Rumors of Indian difficulties and skirmishing In the northern part of tbe State are rife. Tbe prospects ot agriculture are very good, much batter than was at one time anticipated.

Tbe late rains have materially increased the probabilities of good crops The first execution under the laws of California took place in Stockton on the of May. It was for murder. Crime ha been considerably checked of late, and there is some hope for a better state oi things in the future. The Indian Commissioners have been very busy in endeavoring to arrange tbe difficulties with the various tribes of savages. The principles on which treaties are made with them are to bring them out of the Sierra putting them near the foot bills and giving them nearly enough to support them so that, with a little exertion on their part, they may be comfortably settled for making a living, by agricultural pursuit, the third year.

On the 13th of May, a treaty wai concluded by Col. Barbour, Indian Commissioner, with all tbe nation living between King Kiver and the Ka wee ah on the tides, and the Sierra and Tache Lake on the ends principles of the trea.y the' same a previous ones. These are the most numerous tribes yet met, numbering 4,120 souls. Martin, of the No to no tos, on King's River, will be their principal chief. After the treaty on the San Joaquin, tbe Indian Commission separated for the purpose of proceed ing more speedily on their mission, and as there were conflicting choices their districts were deter mined by lot.

Col. Barbour, of Kentucky, received the Southern district; Dr. Wozencrsft, of Califor nia, the middle or Sacramento district and Col McK.ee, of Virginia, the Northern or Klomath dis trict. The commission and its escort now atand Col G. W.

She had been com polled to put in at Mazatlan for provisions. The expedition of Uen. Morebead, tor the con. quest of Lower California, appears to be every ridiculous anair.

The General and about forty volunteers had arrived at San Diego, where tbey got short of funds and could proceed no farther The S. slooo of war Falmouth has arrived at aa Francisco. Parrott showed documents confirming Ihe truth of his statements, so far as the Mexican authorities were concerned. Tbey ordered the arrest of Withers, and had bim delivered up to Capt P. What the captain of the Falmouth could dp under the circunxatancea, different from what he did, is difficult to conceive. A murder of one of his countrymen had been committed; the one accused of the crime bad escaped, had been arrested in accordance with the laws ol Mexico, was delivered up to tha captain, and by him brought to tbe scene of crime, and banded over to tbe civil authorities. The new custom house, at the corner of Wash ington and Kearny streets, San Francisco, waa opened on the 1st ult.

The appearance of a couple of New York omni buses caused much excitement in the streets of San Francisco.
