As soon as we beard of the arrest we repaired to the cells. Tlie prisoner conversed freely, but rather incoberemly. We received from him tbe following statement: His name is Lawrence Reilly be was born In Ire land, and has been In this country ten years, rle married, bve years since, Ann Gold in if, daughter of Pa tr.ck and Marv Gold In a he was formerly enioloved by Mr.

(We Inquired of Miss Conroy, who waa examined by Juallce Bosweli, wbelher she saw tills nip i in tbe room In the morning, and she said not, but that he was tne re the evening.) Tbe prisoner further said that he and his wife had lived unhappily for some years past tbat her family were poastssed of aome properly, and they were all opposed to him.

lie worked hard, and did all he could to earn an honest living, but nothing could satisfy them. He furt'ier stated that, on reluming home fiom his work, he repeatedly found tbe rooms closed, and thia oumr man tn a room with bis wife. On being asked whether be wou.d have some breakfast, he replied, No, lie could not eai," and inquired whether the other woman was dead? Wnen asked wby be did the awful deed, he replied thai Ins wife was not trae to him that he bad lived a miserable life. He stated that his wife was aged twenty years, and be twenty elgbt. On leaving the cells we hastened to tlie scene of the murder, No.

110 North Fourth street Being admitted into the house, the first tblng that met our eyes was a pool of blood at the foot of the stairs in passing up we observed each step stained wUh blood. On the second floor lay covered with a sbeet the first victim the wife. Her countenance seemed pleasant, rather verging on a smile on removing the cloth stx deep wounds were seen directly opposite the heart, and that portion of her body was covered with blood. On the floor below wss the lifeless body of ber mother. She appeared to be about forty five years of aire, and we should judge from bar appearance that she suffered longer tnu her daughter.

Sbe was also slabbed near tbe heart; there were three or four wounds. In tbe second house above we found Jus tica Bosweli examining Miss Elizabeth Conroy. Sbe was lying on a bed, and seemed very much exhausted there waa blood also on ber clothes, near the heart, where the wonnda were inflicted. Her evidence will be found below. We are informed 'hat a notice was inserted some years since by Mrs Guiding in one of the village papers, to the effect Ibat ber daughter was not married lo Reilly, who afterwards brought a certificate of mariiage, purporting to be from a clergyman In Brooklyn.

It was believed to be genuine. Elizabeth Conroy deposed that Lawrence Reilly. on the 28lh of June. 1851, about half past 7 or 8 o'clock, did inflict a dangerous wound upon the person of said Elizabeth Conroy, with a sharp instrument that sbe aw In the hands of ssid Lawrence Reilly, which she thinks was a knife. I saw Anna, daughter of Mary Goldfig, struck with tbe ssme instrument thathesbjek me with.

Anna fell immediately. There waa nobody In the room except Anna Lawrence and myself, when he struck Anna with the knife or insuument. He (Reilly) aaid nothing before this. I heard a shriek, It proceeded from an adjoining room tbe back room or wall of the second stoi. Supposed it proceeded from Mary DoMlne tha mother of Anna.

Reilly then came in the room. He took hold of Anna by the shoulder with one band, and plunged the knife or short instrument In the body of Anna, with the other. He stuck ber more than once. I went to save Anna, and he then struck me. I am nineteen years of age was staying at tha house of Golding while out of place." Tbe N.

Y. Express says 1 Reilly, on the alarm being made, said, we are told, "Now you may take me out and bang me." Me made no resistance, and was taken to prison. Iuformatiou was sent to Mr. Goldine, who returned home about half past 9 o'clock and the sad scene ot his wife and dauehter Iving dead, and tbe younp wo man nearly ao, met his apparently wild and almost distracted gaze. mrst, Airs. Mary utt sua son, Mr, Coraiel. From As we have staled above, our dates from San Francisco, by the ai rival of the Cherokee, are to the 1st ult The Alta California of that date con tains a short summary of the state of affairs in California. From thia we learn that three fourths of tbe burnt district of Sau Francisco is rebuilt. although we presume not in a very substantial manner.

The same is said to be the case with Stockton. Tbe fires did not have as much eftect as we anticipated on the price of goods. The lr ge stocks of goods on sbipbosrd, and subsequent arrivals, prevented any great advance. Tbe reports front the mining regions en couraging, particularly from tbe quartz region Tbe Morning Post, a new Whig paper established ia San Francisco, says that three of tho propria tors ot the Carson's Creek vein were about visiting tbe East with their families, and would take with them $20,000 each, the dividend of the previous few weeks, to pay their expenses. Rumors of Indian difficulties and skirmishing in tbe northern part of the State are rife.

The prospects of agriculture are very good, much better than was at one time anticipated. The late rains have matsrir'ly lncreesed the probabilities of good crops. The first execution under the laws of California took place in Stockton on the 29ih of May. It was for murder. Crime hss been considerably checked oi late, ami there ia some hope for a better state of things ia tbe future.

The Indian Commissioners have been very busy in endeavoring to arrange the difficulties with tbe I various tribes of savages. The principles on which treaties are made with them are to bring them out of the Sierra putting them near the foot hills and giving them nearly enough to support them so that, with a little exertion on their part, tbey may be comfortably settled for making a living, by agricultural pursuits, the third year. On the 13 lb of May, a treaty was concluded Ly Col. Barbour, Indian Commissioner, with all the nations living between King's River and the Ka wee ah on the sides, and tbe Sierra and Tache Lake on the ends principles of the treaty the same as previous ones. These are most numerous tribes yet met, numbering 4,120 souls.

Martin, of the No to no tos, on King's River, will be their principal chief. After the treaty on the San Joaquin, the Indian Commission separated for tbe purpose of proceeding more speedily on their mission, and as there were conflicting choices their districts were deter mined by lot. Col. Barbour, of Kentucky, received the Southern district; Dr. Wozencraft, of California, the middle or Sacramento district and Col McKee, of Virginia, tho Northern or Klomath dis trict.

The Pacific Mall Company's steamship Antelope has arrived at San Francisco. Sha had been compelled to put in at Mazatlan for provisions. Tho expedition of Gen. The Alta California say a that the communication of Mr. Parrot, the Ame ean Consul at Mazatlan, at the time of With era's srrest, published In that paper on the 2d of Sep aemoer last, would seem entirely to exculnate Capt. Mr. Parrott showed documents confirming the truth of bia statements, ao far aa the Mexican They ordered the arrest of Withers, and had him delivered np to Capt P. What the captain of the Falmouth could do under the elrcamannra dif ferent from what he did, is difficult to conceive. A murder ot one of his countrymen had been committed the one accused of the crime had escaped, had been arrested in accordance with the laws ol Mexico, was delivered up to the captain, and by bim brought' to the scene of crime, and handed over to tbe clvd authorities.
