(AP) Jane Blalock, referring to this week's $50,000 Eve LPGA Championship at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, said, "I would love to win this one for many reasons. "Naturally, there's the prestige, but I'd also love to win in my own back yard, before my many friends in the area." Miss Blalock, 26, was suspended for one year last week by the Ladies Professional Golf Association for "unethical actions." The former Portsmouth school teacher retained her playing status, however, by obtaining a temporary injunction against the LPGA action, pending a hearing next a in U. S. District Court. She also filed a $5 million damage suit against the LPGA.

The tournament at Sutton begins Thursday. Miss Blalock, the leading money winner on the 1972 women's tour, said she had been advised by lawyers not to Rec Dream Match 72 CC Vs. MONTREAL (AP) The stage was set today for a likely legal showdown between the established National Hockey League and upstart World Hockey Association as the NHL's two newest franchises, the New York Islanders and Atlanta Flames, stocked their clubs in the expansion draft. General managers Bill Tor-rey of the Islanders and Cliff Fletcher of the Flames were interested bystanders yesterday as the 14 established NHL clubs tidied up their rosters in the intra-league Eight players changed uniforms, the most notable being 42-year-old defenseman Tim Horton, claimed by Buffalo from Pittsburgh. But the most significant draft may have been Toronto's selection of Larry Pleau from Montreal and the Canadiens' subsequent claim of Brad Sel-wood as payment from the Maple Leafs. Both players have signed contracts with the New England Whalers of the, WHA as have several of the other ath letes whose names appeared on the lists of draft eligibles submitted to Torrey and Fletr cher last night.

"The fact that they aro available to me means they signed a standard contract last year," said Torrey. "and that contract contained an option clause on their services for next season. It has their signature and if I have to, I'll go to court to get them to honor that At about $300,000 per pick -both teams get 21 players for the $6,000,000 franchise fee Torrey and Fletcher aren't anxious to pick select players who have no intention of performing in the NHL. Vancouver and Los Angeles chose two players each in yesterday's draft, the Canucks picking Dan Tannahill, a 30-goal scorer with Boston's American Hockey League farm club, and Gerry O'Flaherty from Toronto, and the Kings getting Doug Vol-mar from Detroit and Barry Long from Chicago. The Virginia team which eliminated Cortland then edged Johns Hopkins placed two first-teamers Pete El-dredge and Jay Connor both 3-goal men in the victory at Cortland. They were the only repeaters. Cornell, the 1971 NCAA winner, had a second-teamer in midfielder Bob Shaw and third-teamers Glen Mueller (attack) and Bill Ellis (defense). Fitzsimmons, whose coach rates him one of the nation's best crease defensemen was one of three defenders given honorable mention.

It was not, after 40 minutes, the kind of tennis onetime Notre Dame captain Griffin would have chosen for his pupils-without-portfolio in their dress rehear-sel of its Southern Tier Athletic Conference championship match, against Binghamton Central at 4 this afternoon at Rec Park. It wound up another 7-0 CC victory, however, the Crusaders 43rd successive dual-match win as they go into the STAC final having given up only two points of a possible 112 in conference matches this spring. Father Lord, who'd virtually predicted the 7-0 April sweep of BCHS in which only two sets were lost, fears the rearranged Central lineup will make it tougher this time.

So does Griffin, but when the Crusaders are at the peak of their game, as they've been in recent weeks, the Highland Racquet Club pro thinks they're the best tennis team a local high-school has ever put on the court in his half-century on the West Side scene. "Central has frequently had two and three real standouts, but never as far down the line as this bunch." How about three years ago? he was asked, the Central team which blanked CC in their final meeting: Scott Smith, Dave Heichemer, Bob Smith, Larry Davis and Rick Heichemer in the singles slots. "That's an impressive list," Griffin allowed, but held his ground, pointing out that much of individual lustre of the names in that unbeaten group was attained later that Scott and Rick were soph-' omores and that Dave and Davis juniors whose star emergence came later. Canny and Paul LeStrange are juniors, Keane, Dennis LeStrange and Jim Martin seniors, with a total of 18 varsity seasons among them, each more and more reflecting Griffin's aggressive advice to "hit out" at everything. Keane, though playing with a borrowed girl's racket yesterday, appeared back in that style, the unaccountable abandonment of which Griffin feels, cost him his Section 4 quarterfinal and' a chance for CC to sweep all six berths on the sectional team.
