Tough Mate. Last Monday night on the arrival of steamboat Hornet at her wharf, bead of Customhouse street, one of the colored roustabouts named James Grant was assaulted by the mate, Peter Kelly, and severely beaten because be did not catch toe boat's line soon enough for Kelly. Kelly was not arrested for this, but yesterday morning about 7:15 o'clock be beeame engaged in a quarrel with another colored man named William Forrest, during which Kelly drew sr revolver and fired a shot at him but without effect. Officers Beelhorsc and Ouenn arreeted both parties and locked them up. Kelly for snooting at and Forrest as a material State witness.

When called before the court Forrest waa discharged and Kelly was placed under 9730 bonds. False Pretenses. Yesterday Court Officer Crnso arrested Mrs. A.Danlels. who has been wanted for some days past on a warrant for obtaining goods by false preteuses.

The complainant. Mr. H. W. Allen, alleges that on two different occasions the prisoner came to his srores, Nos.

379 Hospital street and Xo. 3-U North Claiborne streets, and at each time obtained, a lot of silver-plated tablespoons, teaspoons and table knives and forks, all of whicn are valued at $. Xhe articles be claims were obtained under fraudulent names assumed by the prisoner. A Police Cleric ln Trouble. Clerk and Operator Hayes, one of the recent appointees, was arrested in tne Third Precinct Monday afternoon, for bein dru k.

Charges have been preferred against him by beret. Journee. and he will be brought before the board on Monday next. Hayes was assigned to duty in the Sixth Precinct recently, having been transferred from the Fifth station, where be was several times brought up on charges. Missing'.

Last Sunday night a young man named Albert Kpor, aged about 2S years, disappeared from his residence corner of Third and Hiliery streets, in Carrol It on. snd bas not since been heard from. Last Eunday, at their residence, corner of Pacirlo Avenue and Eliza streets, Algiers, Prince Wallace aud bis "wife, botn colored, bad a quarrel during which the wife was shamefully beaten witn a broomstick by Prince. The woman was attended to by Dr. Brown, who pronounced her injuries serious bat not dangerous. An affidavit has been made against Wallace and a warrant Issued lor his arrest. To-night, at Weat End, the Crescent opera company tender the Louisiana Rifles a complimentary performance of the beautiful operetta Chimes of In aid of the expenses of the command to the forthcoming tntsrstate drill at Washington, D. As the Biflss will probably be the only company that will represent Louisiana in the great competitive drill, it becomes a matter of pride that a body of young men so admirably disciplined and ably command ed should be sent off in good style, financially speaking, by the people of a city they will represent so creditably. The company will pay the greater portion of the expense and ask but little outside assistance in consideration of satirinces made In business and loss of time.
