The House Band, eclectic Celtic folkies who mix pipes, flute and melodeon with synthesizer and electric guitar, appear tomorrow at 8 p.m.

at St. Joseph Hall at the College of St. Elizabeth, Route 24, Convent Station. A broad array of local performers take part in a benefit concert for Lisa Leone, a 12-year-old cancer patient from Whippany, Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Freddy's Restaurant, Olcott Square, Bernardsville.

The acts include Clifford, Cutting and Gault (formerly Cloverhill), Choice Bitz, Tommy Tevlin and his Irish bagpipers, singer-guitarist Win Michaels, and Toby, Joe and Moe. Jazz singer and guitarist Eddie Hazell performs with his trio tonight at 8:30 p.m. at the St. Moritz, 9 White Deer Plaza, Sparta. Tomorrow they're at the Inn at Jefferson Square, Dover-Milton Road Oak Ridge.

The Metropolitan Orches tra give a children's concert Sunday at 3 p.m. at the YM-YWHA of Metropolitan New Jersey, 760 Northfield West Orange. The Dukes of Dixieland play early jazz classics at the Sunday at 8 p.m. Pianist Ruth Laredo performs with the Livingston Symphony Orchestra under conductor Istvan Jaray tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. at Livingston High School, Memorial Park Drive, Livingston.

It's free. The Nova Chamber Ensemble play works by Brahms, Mozart and Kodaly tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 91 Maple Mor-ristown. Trumpeter Stephen Burns performs with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra under conductor Michael Pratt next Thursday at the John Harms Center for the Arts, 30 North Van Brunt Englewood. Banjo player Tony Trischka leads his progressive bluegrass band Skyline tomorrow at 8 p.m.

at the Hurdy Gurdy Coffeehouse, at the Central Unitarian Jimmy McGriff and Hank Crawford Passaic Park. Ugly Rumor will open. They Might Be Giants, the eccentric New York rock duo, appear next Thursday at the Loop Lounge, 373 Broadway, Discover LIE1E NO OTHER HO WONDER By JIM BOHEN Daily Record Entertainment Editor Jazz pianist Keith MacDon-aid, a high school buddy of the late Bill Evans, played for years in New Jersey restaurants before his belated discovery a few years ago by top jazz manager Helen Keane (who had managed Evans). Two well-received albums and some more prestigious gigs have changed his fortunes considerably.

Mac-Donald solos tonight at 8 p.m. in the Welpe Theater at Raritan Valley Community College (formerly Somerset County College), Route 28 and Lamington Road, North Branch. After winning every award in sight, touring all around the country, and duplicating the success of her first album with this year's Whitney, Whitney Houston returns to celebrate with a home state crowd next Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Meadowlands Arena, East Rutherford. Jonathan Butler, a pop-jazz singer-guitarist from South Africa, will open.

John Entwistle, the Who's stolid bassist, leads his own band next Thursday at the Stone Pony, 913 Ocean Asbury Park. The Cucumbers, Hoboken pop-rockers with a fast-breaking new album, are there tonight. Alto saxophonist Hank Crawford, a veteran of Ray Charles' '50s band, and Jimmy McGriff, one of the giants of jazz organ, have teamed up with drummer Vance James and guitarist Wayne Boyd as the Soul Survivors. They appear tonight and tomorrow at Gulliver's, 177 Main Lincoln Park. Jimmy Giacone leads his 20-piece big band Nightwateh on Monday.

Vibraphonist Warren Chiasson performs next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Veteran blues guitarist Otis Rush performs with the Hounds Sunday at 9:30 p.m. at Wallace's, 404 Washington Orange. Junior X's Nightmare play the club tonight. The Hounds are there on their own tomorrow.

Singer-guitarist Grover Kemble plays jazz and swing tunes on Monday. The Fairlanes, up and coming blues-rockers, check in Tuesday. The Dalton Gang, a 10-piece jazz-rock band, appear next Thursday. Jazz tuba player Howard Johnson and alto saxophonist Erica Lindsay lead a quintet Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Jazz Room series at William Pater-son College's Shea Center for Performing Arts, 300 Pompton Wayne.

Three West Coast blues artists, vocalist Frankie Lee and guitarists Sonny Rhodes and Bobby Murray, join forces tonight at the Stanhope House, 2 High Stanhope.
