eh buddy? Strangely enough there were no prize winning lake trout listed as having been caught in the Finger Lakes any of the Finger Lakes. Top laker came from Chazy Lake and the nearest community is shown as Dannemora. Weight was 27 pounds even. Second place laker came from Saranac Lake near Tupper Lake community at 2I-pounds-9 and third place laker came from Massawepie Lake near Childwold: weight 20-pounds-9. It would appear that the old time Cayuga Lake fishermen are correct when they contend that the fishing in Ithaca's lake is going down hill.

and fast. Could it be that there is pollution in Cayuga Lake? Could it be that the stocking program needs revising? Perhaps its too many weeds in Cayuga. though the other lakes are growing weeds faster than the anglers and boaters would prefer. The high water levels caused by the recent extensive rains has caused carp to behave in a strange manner. possibly.

Anyway the big trash fish are most abundant now in shallow water. Many of the carp are going to be hooked and landed. or they will be taken with a bow and arrow. However you land carp. how about taking them home and disposing of them.

Leaving them on the lake shore to rot and stink is a no-no. There are those who contend that carp are good eating if you cut out the strip of dark meat along each side under the lateral line. The lateral line. you know. is that row of scales about a third of the way down from the top of the fish.

The lateral line marks a secondary hearing system for carp and other fish. The scales are hollow and pick up low frequency vibrations such as are made by a swimming fish or kicking the tackle box in -a boat. Tomorrow morning over the coffee cups at the office or shop mention it to the other fishermen that carp should be taken away from the lake shore and eaten or buried deep for garden fertilizer. please? Save the date of Sunday. July 16, for the pig roast being put on at the Salmon Creek gun club in conjunction with a crew from the Ithaca Sertoma Club.

All you can eat and drink. the posters say, plus trap shooting from noon until 4 p.m. and games and prizes and socializing. Part of the cost goes to the Sertoma Club project to help support the Ithaca College speech and hearing clinic. Now there's a sporting offer for sportsmen and their families: Eats.
