May 21, 1821. 03 i lates to a THREATENED INVASION OF SPAIN by Rubsiw, assisted probably by the o-ther continental powers hostile to the new order of things In the peninsula. We are unwilling to give credit to the leport that such a measure is conmplated. But the feeble resistance of may have induced the haughty monarr undertake the entire suppression of t' 'evolutionary spirit in Europe, by the ovei of the new governments in Spaio and Portugal. Alexander, if he ventures his troops across the Pyrenees, may find, as Bonaparte did when he ventured to Moscow, that it would have been wiser to have remained at home.

The spiritless and base example of Naples would not be followed by Spain, however Portugal might oct. The report of this contemplated invasion is founded on the following extract of a letter from Paris, dated April 4tb, published in the Loudon papers. "The arrival of Count Nesselrode has put all Paris in an uproar. He comes with a proposal iruiu me ot itussia to sutler the pas gft f. Insurrection in the Turkish Provinces. The next in interest, is the intellieence of a wide spread insurrection in the Greek provinces of a i I wie lurKisn empire, it is said to extend thro' Wallachia, Moldavia, Bulgaria, and that the whole Greek population are determi ued on throwing off the Turkish yoke. Japles. Ihe accounts from Rome of the 27th of March, state that the King of Naples entered his capital amidst the loud and general acclamations of bis subjects, and that the Austrian troops were received with enthusiasm by the populace, who made the air resound with crie3 of Viva el Rev and went out to meet the proud invaders with olive branches in their hands. It is said that the whole Neapolitan army of 150.000 men, excepting about 12,000, deserted and returned to their homes as soon as tbe disgraceful affair at Rieti becameknown; and me jro who remained in arms were composed ol tiie lunar guards, who had not seen tbe face of an enemy, and would not have opposed him if they had.

10,000 of Ihe Austrian troops were to remain in Naples, and the remainder would occupy the different fortresses l.ngland. It will be seen by the extracts be low, tltat the just claims of the Catholics will tie again defeated. Preparations were coin forward for the coronation of the King, and immense sums of money are expended to deco rate his perioii in costly attire and give splendor to tne snow. Jhe oill tor the coronation robes is stated to exceed 20,000 sterling, of hich the turners receive 1,000. For the black spots on the inside of the robes, not fewer than 20,000 Astraca lamb's feet have been required.

London, 16. The discovery shins, un der the orders of Captain Parry, will sail from Deptford in about 10 days. The coronation is now said to be positively fixed for Tuesday the 19th of June next. Explanations are stated to have taken place between the Cabinet of Madrid and the Allied Powers, which, though not yet terminated, have already produced, on the part of the Cabinets, the positive assurance that they do not mean to disturb spam, nor iuterfere in any way in her domestic affairs.

5. Sire Stroej 1 II same spirit is manuested in other parts ot the state. In the last Argus we find a paragraph on the subject, full of all the bitterness and party violence for which that jiaper is celebrated. It contends that the convention is entirely a bucktail measure, and that none but bucktails should be elected delegates. Adjutant Marcy's Budget advocates the same course, and the other bucktail papers echo the sentiments of these presses.

Notw ithstanding the pacific and conciliatory disposition of the republican party has been treated with scorn by the bucktaib, we hope and trust that our frirndi will pursue calm, moderate and dignified course, and endeavor as far as possible to prevent this all-important measure from being involved ia th parly feuds of the dy. At all events, this is the course have from the beginning marked out tor ourselves, and it shall be steadily followed, not withstanding the provocations of our opponents! It the constitution is to be engufphed in the vorlex of politics; if the charter ofour liberties) shall be rent in pieces between contending p.ir-, ties, let the responsibility rest where it upon the shoulders of those who recommended political partisans as delegates to lite conven-; tion, ami of the people who shall follow up such. recommendations. Editors of the American. Tha argument of the demurrer to the pleas in the cause of Judge Van Ness against the edi tors of the American, was noticed for the pre sent term of the supreme court and on Saturday last, it 'jcing then understood that tbe cause could not be reached as it stood on the calendar, a joint application by the counsel of both parties ws made to the court, to set doivn this cause for argument for a particular day, which the court accordingly did for this day. Yesterday the counsel for tbe defendants stated to tbe court that they were not and could not be prepared to proceed in the argument, and requested that it might be postponed. The counsel for the plaintiff observed that they were ready and anxious to argue the cause, but that they were unwilling to press it when the adverse counsel were unprepared, and that they forbore to do so the more especially, because the plaintiff himself was unwilling that the argument should be supposed to have been forced on by him before the counsel for the defendants were fully prepared whereupon tbe court directed tue cause to be set dowu for the first day of the next term. We only hope that after this we shall hear no more of the plaintiff's seeding to delay the trial.
