She showed it this week when she cheerfully told a cheering audience at the Rainbow Grill a thing most women hate to admit publiclythat she had reached her 65th birthday. And amid a flourish of red roses and the waving of one of her celebrated handkerchiefs, she smilingly cut up a huge birthday cake inscribed, "Over 60So What?" Shortly before her, performance, Hildy, who for a generation has been known as "the Incomparable" and "The First Lady of Supper Clubs," told how it felt to reach the landmark year so many dread. "I used to hide my age and say I was 56," she said. "Now I have simply reversed the figure. The number is a large one, but I still feel like 35.

"It's a little scary to be approaching the twilight of life, but I just don't give it a thought. People make too much ado about age. "I'd rather be getting older and still feeling well with every passing day than be a beautiful 25-year-old corpse. "There is no reason to feel guilty or ashamed of getting older. It's a thing to be proud and thankful for." Still youthful-faced and youthful-minded, the lovely chanteuse started her career 46 years ago in vaudeville as one of a four-girl piano team.

"I am very religious," she remarked. "I promised God that if He let me succeed in music, I'd do my best to be an example and inspiration to othersand to help cheer them. I feel I have kept that vow, and that it is God who has kept me dedicated and happy." And such are the ways of Hollywood casting. Burt admits too, "I reacted like a crushed puppy," until Miko herself calmed him down, and insisted she believed Quinn had made the perfect choice. You can see why Burt is so sold on his gal. As he puts it, "Miko is incredible. She has this fantastic objectivity and judgment.

When she lost out to Tina, Miko comforted me!" That was some kind of location on Frank Perry's "Doc," which filmed in Spain last year. There are five tell-it-all books being written by folks who were on the scene, which will be vying for newsstand attention. And over in Israel they're having trouble with the Red Sea. The "Whisper My Name" script calls for Joanna Pettet and William Jordan to walk along that historic body of water with big waves and turbulance in the background. The Red Sea hasn't been in an angry mood, so director James Collier has been looking for a substitute which will provide enough spray and foamy waves.

There are, of course, a few around ABC land who are the exception to the everything-islovely mood. Danny Thomas is one. I'm told Danny is pouting about having his show moved to Thursday night with its tough "Ironside" and CBS movie competition, his soft and easy Wednesday evening berth being given to Hank Fonda's Smith Family. And Pete Duel is grumbling a lot, even though he grabbed a plum of a role as Ben Murphy's "Alias Smith and Jones" co-star, a series debuting this Thursday night. When Pete and I first met, when he was still going by the moniker of Peter Deuel and starting out as lead in "Love on a Rooftop," he was going through his talk-dirty period, figuring this was the way to make the press remember him.

Now he's in the midst of a poor-me mood, complaining because he's working so hard on the series when he'd rather be up in the mountains relaxing. Why did he sign on for the show if he feels so put upon? "I had no choice," he grumbled. "I'm under contract to Universal and they said, 'Do Nancy Sinatra already has decided how she and husband Hugh Lambert will raise their future offspring: the same way that her parents raised her. Nancy and her brother and sister never had to resort to sneaky behavior around their house. She recalled when she was a teenager, her parents took her into the living room and said, "There's the bar, the TV set, here's a box of ciagrettes, and there's the couch.

If you want to drink or watch TV or smoke or neck, it's okay with us. But do it here at home where you can't get into trouble." To this day, reported Nancy, "I don't drink or smoke." As for those other two "vices" TV-watching and necking well, she has indulged a bit, she said laughing. Bob assures me he hasn't had any additional trouble in that department, that he just likes to avail himself of expert advice which might be helpful in preventing what could be tomorrow's problems with his health. And to prove he's been feeling fine, Bob outlines his current hectic-as-ever schedule: his Desert Golf Classic at Palm Springs next weekend; his NBC TV show with Bing Crosby and Petula Clark which airs Feb. 15. Bob 'certainly hasn't slowed down his pace, as far as he or anyone around him can see.

Paul Burke and Carol White have cooled their romance, after an alliance that had them inseparable for three years. When I spoke to Paul late last year, he had just returned from Europe, where he had staged a two-year exile to be with his ladylove. He told me then that their divorces appeared near final and he expected fie and Carol would marry early in 1971. Instead of marriage, they've called finis to their love story at least for the moment. Jack Lord offered his services as "Aloha Greeter" for the $200,000 Hawaiian Open golf classic which will be beaming live via satellite to the mainland over ABC this weekend.

The Lord as some of those whose work with him refer to Jack when he's not about was turned down. The story I get is that tournament executives felt ABC wouldn't be too keen about giving the CBS star of his "Hawaii Five 0" series any free publicity on their time. Don Ho takes over for The Lord. Rosemary Forsythe and David Janssen, vacationing in Acapulco, had the scare of their lives. Strolling along the sand what better place for lovers than a moon-washed Mexican beach? at night they were chased by a burly-looking native.

What could he be after: their money? their jewels? David's girl? All he wanted was David's autograph. "El Fugitivo" is a big hit on Mexican TV. Joey Heatherton, in spite of all those sad headlines concerning husband Lance Rentzel's recent troubles, can smile away her tears. Things are looking up, up with her career, she told me. She has been offered both the starring role in the Broadway-bound comedy "Kiss.

Kiss" and the lead in Howard Koch's big-screen venture, "Star Spangled Girl." I'm delighted for Joey. Nothing like work to take your mind off what ails you. Burt Reynolds was one upset actor when producer Quinn Martin rejected his pleas to cast Miko Mayama in the "Bullet for a Hero" segment of "Dan August" which calls for Burt to fall for a Vietnamese lovely. Miko is Burt's off-camera love interest and is right here in tinseltown, close to Burt, and was available for the role. The part went to Tina Chen.

who was flown in from New York by Joyce -4 Burl Ives and Helen his wife of many years, are getting a divorce. The decree becomes final in April when the star of Universal TV's "The Bold Ones" will marry interior decorator Dorothy Koster. Dorothy hails from New Mexico and the couple have been happily entangled for more than a year. It will be a second marriage for each. Jerry Perenchio and his partner, Jack Kent Cooke, put together the world's heavyweight championship fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, upcoming on March 8.

The bout not only has the biggest guarantee in boxing history $6 million), it also looms as the richest deal ever for closed circuit TV. Now the boys who think big have snared no less than Burt Lancaster that's right, Burt Lancaster. Burt won't referee, or do a trapeze act, he'll narrate the between-the-rounds "color commentary" for the mighty fight of the campions.
