"Our athletes were also dedicated. I thiiJi they worked harder than anyone else in the league.

They had a pride in being No. 1 and were willing to work hard to stay there. "Our program was second to none. We were way ahead of most of the other teams in our' off-season program." Minnich didn't mention it, but the school also had outstanding coaches. Dave Dolbin was the man who started it all back in I960.

He's now head coach at Shippensburg State College. George Chaump, who had a 584 record in his six years at Harris, is now an assistant to Woody Hayes at Ohio State. (AP) America's big league auto racers, wondering what it will take to stop Al Unser's surge to victory in 12 of his last IS starts on the USAC championship trail, will give it another try Sunday at Milwaukee.

Unser's $238,454 victory last Saturday in the 55th 500-mile at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway gave him a four-for-five record this year. He won seven of his last nine in the phenomenal drive that gave him the 1970 USAC big car crown. Russian blunders VANCOUVER, B.C. (AP) A blunder by Soviet Grandmaster Mark Taimanov on the 46th move Friday enabled U.S. Grandmaster Bobby Fischer to win his fifth straight game in their quarter-final elimination round to determine a challenger for the World Chess Championship. Two Americans who coasted through the first round captured the attention of the British. Tom Kite of Austin, rattled off his 7 and 6 victory and Jim Gabrielsen of Atlanta, who won 4 and 3.

Both bettered Carnoustie's par. Gabrielsen, 28, is new to international golf, and was regarded as a long shot. But young Kite, a pink-cheeked, cool Texas, was one of the top favorites at 101. Still to be heard from were U.S. Amateur champion Lanny Wadkins of Richmond, and Bill Hyndman, 55, of Philadelphia, who has been a finalist in this competition three times in 12 years.
