THE SEAT Contrary to nor and doubt. IMS, to lllt wishes of our readers, but Illllo Information of an interesting character, In relation to the the hostile irmles on the Uio Grands, has reached us ilnee our last to tho most authentic accounts, It appears that, on Ibe afternoon of the 17th ultVo, Detachment of 300 regulars and 330 under tho command of CoL.Wilson, of the army, supported by ft small detachmont on board of an armed vessel, landed on the Mexican side of the rlvor, and proceeded lo the town of Barlta, about eight miles from the mouth, of which they took possession, and where they established a military depot. On the next day, Gem Taylor crossed tho Ilio Grande, with a part uf his force, and cap- lured MalamoroJ without Mexicans having (led from the City, were believed to have retreated two or three days' march Into tho Interior, but nothing was certainly known of their movements'. The mouth of the river was then in our possession, and was to be fortified; and a part of our Heel was lying off Baco Chica, for the purpose of aiding (he operations 'of tho army, which was daily receiving reinforce' menu. It was estimated that our loss, in killed and wounded, exceeded 300.

The latter wero generally doing well, except Col. and Capt. who were still living at the last accounts', but whole recovery was considered very doubtful. A reporl had reached town In Tex-' as, that quo hundred Germans, escorting an equal number of. wagons from New Braunfels to tho San Saba settlement, had been attacked by a large body of Comanchcs, who had dispersed tho guard, and captured the whole of tho property.

It was also stated that another numerous ivar party of the same nation were hovering in the vicinity of the Rio Grande, watching tho progress of the battles between the hostile armies, with a view to join tho victors, and share the plunder of the vanquished. How far these rumors are entitled to credit, wo have no present means of any farther intelligence from the seat of war reach us before our paper is sent to press, it will bo laid before the reader in a Ptalscripl, The following official account of the actions of May 8 and 9, will be read with Interest: A vn I Z- Pll "i taken up for consideration norwTd i hlT' A I 8Vldenll oomtnl whole! the bill, pervaded the public mind as lo the muster- after being explained and advocated by Mr 7 lh Ben -4 Ion of tho President. Our artillery, consisting of two eiglilccri'poundera, and two light batteries, was the arm chlelly engaged, and to the excellent manner in which it was niuiitcuvrcd and served, la oursuccess mainly due. The strength of tho enemy is believed lo have been about six thousand men, with seven pieces of artillery and eight hundred cavalry. Ills loss is probably at liiast one hundred killed.

Our strength ilid not exceed all told twenty-three hundred, while our loss was comparatively men uillcd, Uireo officers and thirty-seven men wounded, several of the latter mortally. I regret to siy that Mnjor Ilinggold, 3d artillery, and Captain Page, 4th infantry, ore severely wounded. Lieut. Lultier, 2d artillery, sliaht- ly so.
