The couple lived, with their families, in the same apartment building. They had gone through grammar school together, had dated steadily for the last two years and had been engaged for a year. Miss Arzedi had worked as a sewing machine operator at a sportswear plant around the corner from her home. At 8 a. m.

Saturday, while her mother laid out her wedding dress, Miss Arzedi and Pinto went to mass together at Our Lady of Mount Carrhel Church, where they were to have been married. They went back to her home to have breakfast with her brother. Shortly before 10, Pinto left to get a hair cut. Miss Arzedi put her hair up in curlers, put a scarf over her head and went on an errand to the neighborhood drugstore. She met Pinto coming out of the barbershop.

They chatted a moment, and he left her, saying: "I'll see you later, dear." Associated Press WIREPHOTU. These are times lor courage and common sense, Mr. Eisen hower said. These, he said, can prevent what he acknowledged is an economic dip from becoming serious. Other Republicans started snip ing back angrily over the week end, but the White House said Mr. Eisenhower had no comment.

Then he went over to the Stat- ler Hotel to extend greetings to the food conference, and cut loose bit. HAD BEEN CANCELED The President earlier had canceled a scheduled speech before the food conference in order to fly to Phoenix, in order to take Mrs. Eisenhower to a vacation spot. Mr. Eisenhower returned to Washington this morning, how-j ever, and appeared at the conference.

Whiteside acknowledged today he spoke to Federal Communications Commissioner Richard A. Mack on behalf of the winning applicant in the contest for Miami's TV Channel 10. But Whiteside said his inter vention in the case was merely an action on behalf of a friend.

He said he was never employed as counsel, and turned down a proffered $10,000 fee. Under oath before House in vestigators, Whiteside bitterlv denounced Bernard Schwartz as an unmitigated liar" and denied point by point Schwartz' ac count of Whiteside's role as in termediary in a hotly contested TV case. He charged- that when Schwartz told a House commerce investigating subcommittee of transfers of money totaling $2,650 from Whiteside to Mack, Schwartz held back information that these transactions were only a continuation of 20 years or more of loans and repayments between two men who had been friends since student days at University of Florida. 'DEPRAVED PERSON" Schwartz made his accusations under oath when the subcommittee after dismissing him as its counsel called him as a witness. Whiteside termed the former counsel "a depraved person" who used "the big lie technique.

The FCC voted early last year to give the Miami Channel 10 to Public Service Television, a subsidiary of National Airlines. This decision overturned a rec ommendation from an FCC examiner that it go to Radio Station WKAT. Whiteside said that when he talked to Mack "I recommended to him for his consideration" the individuals in National Airlines as being able to do a public service if they got the channel. Later, he said, he talked A. Frank Katzentine, owner of WKAT, and "my agreement with Katzentine was that I would call Mack and withdraw my recommendation for National." Whiteside said he never said that Mack was under any promise or pledge to him.

MOULDER COMMENT Representative Morgan M. Moulder a committee member, commented here that it seemed the question here was what you call a "pledge. Whiteside said he and Katzentine had a discussion about fees on a construction company matter and he, Whiteside, told Katzentine his actions were tantamount to "blackmail." Fangio's release came just 10 minutes after the scheduled start of the Grand Prix auto race. His abduction from the lobby fa hotel in the heart of downtown Havana was made last night by followers of rebel leader Fidel Castro in an obvious attempt to cripple the race, the highlight of Cuba's winter tourist season. It also wasa move by Castro's rebels to embarrass the government of President Fulgencio Batista.

But the regime threw all Its police resources into the search for the famous Argentine sportsman, and was combing the city inch by inch when he was turned loose. The abduction on the eve of Cuba's grand prix auto race, one the top tourist attractions of the year, put Batista's regime in an embarrassing spot and it reacted sharply. New York (UR) Police Issued a 13-state alarm today for a 29-year-old seamstress who disappeared Saturday five hours before her scheduled wedding. In the few square -blocks of Brooklyn which had held virtually all the life of Irene Arzedi, they checked door-to-door, cellar-to-cellar and rooftop-to-rooftop on the chance the pretty, dark-haired young woman had been abducted between her home and the drugstore where she was last seen. He said he could hear a man talking to someone else in the distance but the caller in each case hung up without speaking to him. Labor Secretary James Mitchell said earlier he believes the administration will recom- mend a tax cut if joblessness continues to climb next month.

He said most Cabinet members feel the same way. However, Treasury Secretary Robert B. Anderson said only that his department has the question of a tax cut "under constant study and review." He said he had not yet prepared any "package" proposal for a tax reduction. A top Labor Department employment expert reported that new claims for unemployment benefits have been going down, although not as rapidly as usual this season as in recent years.
