BINGHAMTON PRESS S3 First Division Goal ROY HARRIS? NO, JIMMY Sept. 2,1953 Snuffed for Triplets TriDlet hoDes of regaining some portion (the first division) of their pre-slump stature (first place) were nearly dead today after dropping two out of three in Wil-liamsport over the weekend. Home tonight against Albany for three singletons that wind up regular-season Johnson Field ac i make the switch after his sensational pro football debut as Cleveland fullback. "But there is no question In my mind," Rothschild insisted. "He is one of the best built, most beautifully co-ordinated athletes I have ever seen.

Maybe he is 'too but I believe the competitive part of boxing would take care of that angle. He could make a real fortune in a short time in boxing." There is no denying Rothschild's evaluation of Brown's muscular equipment. He is young enough, at 22, to learn the fistic trade and his measurements speak for themselves when you consider that Brown has an 18-inch neck, wears a 36 sleeve and has a 32-inch waist. Athletically, Brown is a marvel. He received offers from yard average; led the Browns to the Eastern Division title and was "Rookie-of-the-Year." "But remember," he says with typical modesty, "all that took 10 other men up in front of me." Brown Is regarded by most football men as the best young fullback to enter the rugged pro league in more than a decade.

And his love of football, despite its smaller payoff when compared to the possible riches of the prize ring, has been the deciding factor. "But I don't see how he could miss in boxing," says the still grimly hopeful Rothschild, one of boxing's few gentlemanly operatives. "I'd give a lot to see the kid really hit the financial Jackpot." both the Braves and Yankees as a baseball pitcher. At Syracuse he won letters in lacrosse, track and basketball, being so proficient at the latter that he was drafted by the Syracuse Nats. "I didn't care too much for baseball, though," Brown admits.

"Football was my favorite and I wanted to do well. But wanting and doing are two different things." He did and does well. At Syracuse he was everybody's Ail-American, scoring 43 points against Colgate in his senior year, as example, and tallying 21 in the Cotton Bowl game. Last year, as the Browns' rookie fullback, he set a tough pro league record by gaining 237 yards rushing in one game; led the league in rushing with 942 yards and a 4.7 By OSCAR FRALEY VP-International Sports Writer New York Jimmy Brown, pro football's Rookie-of-the-Year with the Cleveland Browns, had an open offer today to turn to boxing with the "very bright" possibility of fighting for the heavyweight championship of the world "within three years." "I have advised Jimmy that I would put him in a gym for six months before he ever had a bout," Syracuse promoter Norm Rothschild revealed. "After that we would bring him along slowly and yet, within three years, he is such a remarkable athlete that I am certain he would be fighting for the title." Brown, the 6-foot-2, 228-pound-er who won All-America honors at Syracuse, is reluctant to tion, the Trips are now inree games behind fourth-place Spring field with only six to go In fact, it 11 take some lancy maneuvering now to catch wu- liamsport and avert the irips first sixth-place finish In a Jut- decade.
