2 PRESS, Binghamton, N. Y. May 28, 1965 TV Viewpoint TV Log Previews oi Tonight's TV Toppers back on Ed Sullivan's CBS show early in the 1965-66 season, appearing in a broadcast originating in New York. They first appeared with Sullivan in February, 1964. Come fall ABC-TV will start a daytime soap opera version of The Nurses, the canceled CBS night-time drama series which had enlarged its title to The Doctors and The Nurses.

I I FANS of My Three Sons will have to look for this veteran Fred MacMurray series on CBS and Channel 12 beginning in September. CBS bought the show's entire future and past from the parent network, ABC. There will be the usual string of fresh episodes once a week at night, and CBS will use the old ones on a daytime strip basis at some future period. Secretary of State Dean Rusk is interviewed on NBC's Meet the Press Sunday over Channel 40. ABC-TV's night-time soap opera, Peyton Place, makes its long planned expansion from two to three episodes a week on June 25, on Friday over Channel 34.

It is currently seen on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Russians formally approved the live Early Bird satellite transmission of the American-Soviet track Meet from Kiev Stadium by ABC-TV over Channel 34 July 31 and Aug. 1 It will be seen live simultaneously in Russia and the United States. THE BEATLES will be his power. Slattery shows toughness in this one and guest star Vera Miles plays the bitter, clever woman with finesse.

12 O'CLOCK HIGH (10-U p. Channel 34) "Interlude." (Repeat). As the title indicates, this is a time away from war with General Savage on vacation in Scotland and falling in love. The object of his affection is beautiful Dana Wynter, making a romantic team the ladies will readily enjoy. NIGHTLIFE a.m., Channel 34) Dick Shawn and William B.

Williams close out their week as the hosting duo with the comedy team of Bob and Ray, singer Helen Gallagher, musical comedy performer Linda Lavin and director of New Hampshire's Lottery Commission, Edward L. Powers, along for the fun, song and chatter tonight. TONIGHT a.m. Channel 40) Johnny Carson has an attractive guest list as Ethel Merman, Eydie Gor-me, Myron Cohen and singer Frank d'Rone appear on his schedule for tonight. (Color).

I TODAY IN Bl NC AMTO pp tonight, but it's complicated greatly by the political instability of Vichy oriented Frenchmen who blow hot and cold toward the Nazis depending on their measure of success. The plot concerns a counterfeiter (James Franciscus) who is offered a pardon by the U. S. military intelligence if he will locate and return currency plates hidden in Nazi-occupied France. Interesting.

(Color.) THE ADDAMS FAMILY p. Channel 34) "New Neighbors Meet the Addams Family." (Repeat.) A wildly funny half hour. Think how you'd feel if you were on your honeymoon and you moved into a home next door to the Addams clan! The newly wed Petersons (Cynthia Pepper and Peter Brooks) face this unusual situation and you know if their marriage can last through such experiences as the neighborly visit and bridge game, it will survive anything. JACK BENNY PROGRAM p.m., Channel 40) (Repeat.) Considering how poorly she fared with her own series this season, this is a welcome opportunity to catch Carol Burnett clowning in a riverboat sketch with Jack (he's a riverboat gambler) and singing "Everything's Coming Up Roses" on the repeat of a program originally aired in 1963. GOMER PYLE p.

Channel 12) (Repeat.) A simple but engaging episode involving Gomer and his sergeant in a survival test. The sergeant acts efficient, yet it's Gomer who comes up with good meals, water and other comforts too. It's the characters rather than the plot that makes the entry go. FDR p. Channel 34) "Fury in the East." This half hour covers the far-flung activities of the United States armed forces in the Pa NAPOLEON'S HELPER May Ileatherly is ready with her shootin' iron as she portrays Heather McNabb, U.N.C.L.E.'s research expert and an aide to hero Napoleon Solo on NBC's satirical spy series, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

(Color).

SLATTERY'S PEOPLE (10-11 p.m., Channel 12) "Question: How Long Is Shadow of a Man?" (Repeat). Good drama and an absorbing behind-the-scenes look at political parties attempting to discipline their legislative members. Featured highlights of this hour-long attempt to examine the history of the crisis in the Dominican Republic, include an interview with Secretary of State Dean Rusk, taped earlier, expressing current administration policy. Interviews with Ambassador W. Tapley Bennett, explaining the basis for his reports to President Johnson at the outset; with Colonel Caamano, who has sharply criticized Mr. Bennett's reports; and with former President Juan Bosch; plus a running analysis of the complexities and urgencies inherent in the crisis round out a topical hour of review. (Color).

RAWHIDE p.m., Channel 12) "Piney." (Repeat). Minimal action here, but plenty of good robust humor, thanks to Ed Begley as a gregarious confidence man not averse to breaking the law for a fast buck, and he learns a new town's been built over an abandoned mine and the bank is directly over one of the tunnels. He's such a benevolent-1 i old codger, Gil Favor doesn't realize he and his drovers are being used for a heist. THE FARMER'S DAUGHTER (8 8:30 p. Channel 34) "Why Wait 'Til November." If you've been a regular follower of the series and can hardly contain yourself waiting for the big day, this episode (the last of the season) is guaranteed to keep you on edge.

Katy and Glen decide November is a long time to have to wait to get married, particularly in their agitated condition, and they plan an elopement. Everything you might expect to go wrong does. BOB HOPE THEATER p. Channel 40) "Escape Into Jeopardy." Es- Dim View Of By HAROLD STERN New York Most viewers do not believe in ratings. Most viewers believe that minority tastes should be represented on TV.

Less than 10 per cent of the roughly 8,000 ballots tabulated indicated a belief in the validity of ratings. Almost three-fourths of bal-loters felt that tastes of minorities are being deprived of their TV rights. Among the 63.7 per cent of those who indicated they did not believe in ratings, the largest group did not question the basic validity of the rating system, but felt ratings should not be the sole criterion for programming. A smaller group questioned the accuracy of the rating system itself, despite the fact that within known limits of Laredo Gets Julie Julie Harris will guest-star in "Rendevous at Arillo," a drama to be presented on Laredo, new NBC-TV color series for the 1965-66 season on Channel 40. The basic doubt here was in the reliability of the sampling, which was felt to be too small to be conclusive. Of the 72.6 per cent who believe there should be programs for special tastes, the bulk of the comments blamed ratings for most of what is wrong on television. The most frequent specific comments fell into groups which felt that ratings produce a dreary sameness of programming, that program interest should be measured in terms of depth as well as quantity of audience and that high ratings are the result of TV's appeal to juveniles and older people with juvenile minds.
