Junior Editors Quiz on- RENOVO Borough officialdom is indignant at references in a "Men's" magazine to Renovo's being a headquarters for "Boxcar Berthas," girls who use empty railroad cars for trysting places for a fee. In an article, Playdolls of Our Disaster Areas," the author, one John Rossiter, said: "Prostitution in railroad yards by 'Boxcar Berthas' has become a problem for the authorities in Renovo, once a bustling railroad town." Mayor Carmen R. Rosamilia said: "There's nothing to it. There is no basis for such comment.

It is definitely not true. It is a disgrace to put something like that in a magazine." Mayor Rosamilia said he had talked with borough and Pennsylvania Railroad Co. police; had checked borough records, and asked railroad officials to check their records. "There was like itthat. (The report in the magazine)." He declared: "We are going to try to get them (the magazine editors) to retract else!" He indicated that legal action may be forthcoming if the retraction is not.

The mayor said that he and the members of council had talked over the matter at the time of the special meeting last Sunday when the officials were called together to take action on an between the borough and the railroad company in the transfer of Paddy's Run water rights by the company to the municipality. Mayor Rosamilia said no one had complained to the borough or railroad police about the girls mentioned or about any other such girls. He said city officials would confer later with their Robert D. O'Connor, of Lock' Haven. The next regular meeting of the councilmen will be Wednesday, April 14.

The magazine article said: "Employment in the Pennsylvania Railroad yard sank from 1,500 workers during World War II to as few as 200 this year. "Says one bitter city council- man: 'Pop Pennsy built this burg, and he ought to take better care of it. The town's a mess. Vacant stores, broken windows, little tax money. Mice are a favorite food for the milk tnake, and so, as our picture suggests, when they are prowling around barns they are usually looking for mice, and are the friend rather than his enemy.
