BARRETT Richard T. Nemcek yesterday was sentenced to serve six months in the Monroe County Penitentiary for drunken driving at the time his car crushed the life from James E. Corey in Court Street last December. Acting Broome County Judge Frederick W. Loomis, of Otsego County, who described the Corey death as- "a needless occurrence," also sentenced the 31-year-old defendant to pay a $250 fine or to serve 250 additional days in the penitentiary.

In addition, he revoked Mr. Nem-cek's operator's license. Defense Attorney Richard A. Battaglini seemed surprised that a jail term was imposed. He was silent briefly, then asked Judge Loomis for a stay of execution of the sentence pending appeal from the conviction.

Judge Loomis reserved decision and Mr. Battaglini said he would immediately take formal steps preparatory to appeal. MEANTIME, Mr. Nemcek was committed to the County Jail to await transfer to the penitentiary. The jury that convicted Mr.

Nemcek of drunken driving after a two-week trial last month acquitted the defendant of criminal negligence, a felony, and reckless driving, a misdemeanor. "I'm not going to lecture you on the evils of drinking or driving while drinking," Judge Loomis told Mr. Nemcek. The bespectacled, neatly dressed defendant displayed no outward sign of emotion as he was escorted from the courtroom to jail. His wife burst into tears, however.

You are wrong, because the price at which the call could be exercised would be reduced by the amount of the dividend. That has exactly the same effect as if the dividend were paid to the buyer of the call. Won't you admit you goofed? A Wait, just a minute. It does not "exactly have the same effect." Let's say you buy a three-month call option on 100 shares of XYZ stock, at $40 a share. You pay cash (good American dollars) for that call.

You then have the right to buy (from the seller of that option) 100 shares of XYZ, at $40 a share, any time within the next three months. Let's say a 25-cent-a-share dividend is declared on XYZ stock. You don't get the dividend. But your call option price is reduced 25 cents a share. You now have the right to buy those 100 shares, at $39.75 a share.

Let's say the market price of XYZ stays below $39.75 a share or drops even lower until your call option expires. 63' Vi 254 Vt -S- 8 57' 574 57' 5 31'e 31' 31 'I '4 1 234 234 234 14 2 33' 33' 33' 32 114 11'4 11'4 4 21 22i 22'4 224 2 4 39' 39' 39' 5 11 11 ll'i 6 34' 34' 34' 5 39' 39' 39' 11 89' 89 89 8 74 71 74 Vt duPont 3g 5 251 '4 250' 250V -TO 3 32 32 32' Vt 12 12' 12Va 4 22' 22Vi 22' 5 114 114 114 Duq Lt 1.28 Dynam Am East AlrL EastKo 2.20a EatonM 1.80 ElBondS 1.20 Emer El .80 Emer 4 374 37 37 office at the time. The grains were steady to firm. Support for soybeans was largely short covering. It was credited to the new government estimate of a 25,000,000 bushel carryover this year, down 10,000,000 from a quarterly estimate of Jan. 1. The government also said It Is quite possible the carryover may be even less than 25,000,000.

The hope that swimming could be provided at Greenwood Park Lake, Nanticoke, by late summer thus appeared to be dashed. THE COUNTY sought bids for clearing the lake bottom, installation of a beach area and improvement of an inlet stream.

The $28,000 ceiling placed by the county specifications on the price of the job apparently dissuaded some contractors from bidding for it. County Board Chairman Henry M.
